A few days ago we received word that my son-in-law was gravely injured when the vehicle he drove in Iraq was hit by a roadside bomb.

He faces a long recovery and may never fully regain the use of his right foot, yet he was one of the lucky ones in this incident.

One of his friends and team members was killed and another was grievously injured and fighting for his life in a hospital bed in Germany right now.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the fact that so many men and
women serve to protect us and our freedom every day until
something like this happens to you.

Whether you agree with the current political climate or the
reasons we fight or not, it’s important to never lose sight
of the fact that our soldiers are in peril serving us.

Unless you have a son or daughter or husband or wife
serving, it may never cross you mind to really think about
the tremendous sacrifices every armed forces member makes
daily so we can remain safe and free.

However, what you may not realize (or even think about) is
that these young men and women are not robots – they’re
people.

They get scared and lonely and homesick just like you would
if you got separated from friends and family over thousands
of miles for months, sometimes years at a time.

But there is something we can all do to make their lives
brighter and bring comfort to them and their families no
matter how far away their duty station – and the Internet
helps us do it!

The USO (United Services Organization) has been helping to
support the troops ever since Bob Hope toured Europe to
entertain during World War II.

The USO continues its mission today by offering help,
support, and comfort to our troops both at home and abroad.

But the USO needs help constantly with both cash donation
and volunteer help to keep serving our troops.

If you can’t volunteer your time then they would certainly
appreciate a donation through their website.

You can even make your donation in memory of someone or in
honor of someone special to you.

This site provides a way to connect with troop support
organizations in your state.

Here in Virginia there are 40 different sites listed with
more information on how you can make a difference in the
lives of our troops and their families.

This site makes it possible for you to find a specific way
you can contribute.

With the holidays coming up, it’s even more important to
get involved with the effort to support our troops with
more than just a ribbon on a tree or a magnet on a car.

The best gift anyone can give is the gift of time, energy
and effort to make someone else’s life a little brighter.

Even if you just send a card, make a donation, or put
together a gift box, that simple act may lift the spirits
of someone who could really use a hug across thousands of
miles or right around the corner.

If you don’t do it, then who will?

Hey Jon,

Want to thank you for all that you have done and sacrifices you have made. Hope you recover soon and god bless you guys. Makes what I do seem trivial in comparison.

Jon,

I’m so sorry to hear of your injury. We tend to get involved in our day to day lives, and forget what you are all doing for us over in Iraq. Praise God, that He protected you.

Thank you for your service and faithfulness to support our country. You’ll be in my prayers.

October 30, 2007

to PFC Jon H – I can only express my deepest condolences. I have a brother seriously injured in Nam and a son, recently retired from the Army, who was there for Desert Storm.

I send you healing thoughts and prayers. I’m sure you’re struggling not only with your own injuries, but with concern for your comrades and the one you lost.

Please know that, no matter our attitudes about this war, the SOLDIERS ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN. I experienced the ‘bad attitudes’ during Nam. I NEVER want to have another soldier come home to that. But I also experienced the joy of meeting my son on his return from D.S. … he didn’t understand the fuss. But I did.

I, and my family and friends, send you greetings, get well wishes, and hopes for a healing of the body, mind and spirit in the coming long weeks of recovery. Keep your family close to you. And know that you have a ‘little guy’ anxious for your hugs and guidance.

Wishing you (and all of our soldiers) continued strength and healing.

Hugs from Maryland, Ellie

PS Jim – the same goes for you and your family – I send you strength and healing thoughts as you support others. E

Hello Jon, my family and I are deeply grateful for the sacrifice you and your military family have made in the name of Freedom and Democracy. Never, for a moment think that you are not appreciated. To this day, whenever possible, when I see young men and women in uniform I walk up to them and say, “thank you.” I wish you a strong and speedy recovery. Thanks again.

Dear Jon,
I only know your father-in-law through the internet as a fellow internet marketer, but wanted you to know that even though we’ve never met, me and my entire team at Prime Concepts wish you a speedy recovery, you’re in our thoughts and prayers and we appreciate you and your buddies immensely. Thank you for your sacrifices and god bless you!

It is a real shame that even today countries maintain military forces incurring massive expenses and often involving casualties.
We should all strive to have a world without any military forces.
I wish you a very quick recovery.

Jim,

I am deeply saddened to hear about your son-in-laws injuries.

When you and I spoke in Las Vegas about him going over there I actually said a prayer for him in my hotel room that night.

Please let him know that he will continue to remain in my (and my families) prayers.

As a service veteran myself, I’m so grateful for his service to his country.

But I’m so sorry that he has had to make such a painful sacrifice.

I wish him a speedy recovery, both physically and mentally from his wounds.

If there is anything I can do to help him or his family you can call me day or night.

I don’t know your father-in-law personally, only through his writings, but I know that you are being strengthened and made well through his love for you and your beautiful baby.

Jim will be bringing with him healing energy from many other people who see you whole and well, and mine will be there too. I trust you will find peace as well as physical healing.

Jim
As you know, we discussed these things the last time I saw you. My son Steve was wounded for the second time last week and is deaf in his right ear with brain damage from an armor piercing round that went through his truck filling him with shrapnel. This is his second Purple Heart so as far as any statement on the war–there’s mine. He made it through but some of the guys under his command did not walk away.
Your son-in-law and the men with him are doing what most people CAN’T do–they are putting the most valuable thing they have on the line for our country–their lives. I pray for your son-in-law and for the guys, his buddies there with him that have paid this heavy cost for all of us so we can go to work, school, church and any other place we desire free from fear of these individuals that want to take our freedoms. They know the meaning of sacrifice and hardship–they have seen the true face of terror and did their part to stop it. God bless him and his whole troop and tell him thanks from a Dad who understands what he did for all of us here!

Jon,

Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery. I’m sure you do not consider yourself a hero as most true heroes don’t, but you are a hero in the eyes of most Americans.

Thank you for serving in Iraq so we can be safe here. May God bless you and your family. We will always be in debt to the brave men and women of our military.

Hi Jon,

As a former serviceman myself, I can’t be any prouder of the young generation of military men and women like yourself. Your sacrifice shows a big heart for your country and I pray that your country shows a big heart in return. Your next, and more important mission, is to raise a strong family and to do that, you must recover. I have no doubts that you have the right people in your corner, including your father-in-law, and that you’ll continue to make America proud. Best wishes for the fight that faces you and a proud salute to a professional soldier.

Dear Jim: I’ve been a practioner of Buddhism for 35 years and in that tradition there is a practice called Tonglin where as one is meditating, one focuses on sending out all that is of benefit to those who are suffering and actually taking in that suffering upon oneself. I will, with your permission, post a message with Jon’s name, location, and a brief description of injuries suffered to the Buddhist community to which I belong for meditators to include Jon in their Tomglin practice. George

P.S. I feel you need to give me permission to do this..

October 30, 2007
