A few days ago we received word that my son-in-law was gravely injured when the vehicle he drove in Iraq was hit by a roadside bomb.

He faces a long recovery and may never fully regain the use of his right foot, yet he was one of the lucky ones in this incident.

One of his friends and team members was killed and another was grievously injured and fighting for his life in a hospital bed in Germany right now.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget the fact that so many men and
women serve to protect us and our freedom every day until
something like this happens to you.

Whether you agree with the current political climate or the
reasons we fight or not, it’s important to never lose sight
of the fact that our soldiers are in peril serving us.

Unless you have a son or daughter or husband or wife
serving, it may never cross you mind to really think about
the tremendous sacrifices every armed forces member makes
daily so we can remain safe and free.

However, what you may not realize (or even think about) is
that these young men and women are not robots - they’re
people.

They get scared and lonely and homesick just like you would
if you got separated from friends and family over thousands
of miles for months, sometimes years at a time.

But there is something we can all do to make their lives
brighter and bring comfort to them and their families no
matter how far away their duty station - and the Internet
helps us do it!

The USO (United Services Organization) has been helping to
support the troops ever since Bob Hope toured Europe to
entertain during World War II.

The USO continues its mission today by offering help,
support, and comfort to our troops both at home and abroad.

But the USO needs help constantly with both cash donation
and volunteer help to keep serving our troops.

If you can’t volunteer your time then they would certainly
appreciate a donation through their website.

You can even make your donation in memory of someone or in
honor of someone special to you.

This site provides a way to connect with troop support
organizations in your state.

Here in Virginia there are 40 different sites listed with
more information on how you can make a difference in the
lives of our troops and their families.

This site makes it possible for you to find a specific way
you can contribute.

With the holidays coming up, it’s even more important to
get involved with the effort to support our troops with
more than just a ribbon on a tree or a magnet on a car.

The best gift anyone can give is the gift of time, energy
and effort to make someone else’s life a little brighter.

Even if you just send a card, make a donation, or put
together a gift box, that simple act may lift the spirits
of someone who could really use a hug across thousands of
miles or right around the corner.

If you don’t do it, then who will?

Dan :

Get well soon!!! We in the UK appreciate all that the US and UK armed forces are doing to make the world a safer place

Hey Jon,

Want to thank you for all that you have done and sacrifices you have made. Hope you recover soon and god bless you guys. Makes what I do seem trivial in comparison.

Laura :

Dear Jon,

Thank you for your service. My prayers and thoughts are with you for a speedy recovery.

Sincerely,
Laura

Jon,

I’m so sorry to hear of your injury. We tend to get involved in our day to day lives, and forget what you are all doing for us over in Iraq. Praise God, that He protected you.

Thank you for your service and faithfulness to support our country. You’ll be in my prayers.

Ellie :

to PFC Jon H - I can only express my deepest condolences. I have a brother seriously injured in Nam and a son, recently retired from the Army, who was there for Desert Storm.

I send you healing thoughts and prayers. I’m sure you’re struggling not only with your own injuries, but with concern for your comrades and the one you lost.

Please know that, no matter our attitudes about this war, the SOLDIERS ARE NEVER FORGOTTEN. I experienced the ‘bad attitudes’ during Nam. I NEVER want to have another soldier come home to that. But I also experienced the joy of meeting my son on his return from D.S. … he didn’t understand the fuss. But I did.

I, and my family and friends, send you greetings, get well wishes, and hopes for a healing of the body, mind and spirit in the coming long weeks of recovery. Keep your family close to you. And know that you have a ‘little guy’ anxious for your hugs and guidance.

Wishing you (and all of our soldiers) continued strength and healing.

Hugs from Maryland, Ellie

PS Jim - the same goes for you and your family - I send you strength and healing thoughts as you support others. E

David :

Jon,

Thank your for protecting us and guarding our way of life. Without people like you, America would not be what it is today. My families prayers are with you to make a speedy recovery.

You are what America stands for.

Dave

Marvin :

Hello Jon, my family and I are deeply grateful for the sacrifice you and your military family have made in the name of Freedom and Democracy. Never, for a moment think that you are not appreciated. To this day, whenever possible, when I see young men and women in uniform I walk up to them and say, “thank you.” I wish you a strong and speedy recovery. Thanks again.

Jon All the best from Edinburgh for your recovery.

Wishing Jon all the best

Dear Jon,
I only know your father-in-law through the internet as a fellow internet marketer, but wanted you to know that even though we’ve never met, me and my entire team at Prime Concepts wish you a speedy recovery, you’re in our thoughts and prayers and we appreciate you and your buddies immensely. Thank you for your sacrifices and god bless you!

Sincerely,

Ford Saeks

Binoy Gupta :

It is a real shame that even today countries maintain military forces incurring massive expenses and often involving casualties.
We should all strive to have a world without any military forces.
I wish you a very quick recovery.

Jim,

I am deeply saddened to hear about your son-in-laws injuries.

When you and I spoke in Las Vegas about him going over there I actually said a prayer for him in my hotel room that night.

Please let him know that he will continue to remain in my (and my families) prayers.

As a service veteran myself, I’m so grateful for his service to his country.

But I’m so sorry that he has had to make such a painful sacrifice.

I wish him a speedy recovery, both physically and mentally from his wounds.

If there is anything I can do to help him or his family you can call me day or night.

Eric Graham

Don Bethune :

You guys are true American heros and your courage and dedication is an inspiration to us all. I pray that you will have a speedy and full recovery.

God bless my friend,
Don

Jon, we pray for your speedy recovery and acknowledge your great sacrifice for your country. Thank you, Deb

I don’t know your father-in-law personally, only through his writings, but I know that you are being strengthened and made well through his love for you and your beautiful baby.

Jim will be bringing with him healing energy from many other people who see you whole and well, and mine will be there too. I trust you will find peace as well as physical healing.

Blessings, Colin Tipping

Ann Bannister :

Jon,
We cannot thank you enough for the selfless service you provide for all of us. I pray that you will heal quickly and peace will be with you through the process.

Duke Clarke :

Jon,
My wife Cathi and I have never met you although we know your family through Jim. We heard of your incident and wanted to send our love and prayers.

Thanks can hardly be enough to a young man who represents our country, our way of life and our families here at home, but we certainly do thank you for your selfless service and commitment to do your best.

God’s love and blessings to you and your family,
Duke and Cathi Clarke

Don Dean :

Jon,

You are a great American and our prayers are with you and your family. I would like to share this thought with you:

WE LIVE IN THE LAND OF THE FREE, ONLY BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE.

May God now demonstrate His faithfullness to you as you have faithfully served our country and ensured my family’s freedom. Seek Him with all your heart and He will not only guide you, but “will never leave you, nor forsake you.”

In our Thoughts and Prayers,
Don Dean and Family

Ed :

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the job you and other brave men and women do in protecting our great country overseas so we don’t have to do it here. Our prayers are for the speedy recovery of you and your team members, and years of happiness with your family here in the good ole USA.

Hey Jon,

Welcome home Soldier…….and thanks.

Yesterday we saw a bumper sticker that said, “If you can read this………thank a Teacher.”

Since you are reading it in English……..thank a Soldier.”

Gayle and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We wish you a full and speedy recovery.

Lots of love from South Carolina.

Fred and Gayle.

Jim
As you know, we discussed these things the last time I saw you. My son Steve was wounded for the second time last week and is deaf in his right ear with brain damage from an armor piercing round that went through his truck filling him with shrapnel. This is his second Purple Heart so as far as any statement on the war–there’s mine. He made it through but some of the guys under his command did not walk away.
Your son-in-law and the men with him are doing what most people CAN’T do–they are putting the most valuable thing they have on the line for our country–their lives. I pray for your son-in-law and for the guys, his buddies there with him that have paid this heavy cost for all of us so we can go to work, school, church and any other place we desire free from fear of these individuals that want to take our freedoms. They know the meaning of sacrifice and hardship–they have seen the true face of terror and did their part to stop it. God bless him and his whole troop and tell him thanks from a Dad who understands what he did for all of us here!

David Leffler :

Jon,

Thank you for the ultimate service you provide to our country. You are a hero and role model for a nation. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten!

God’s speed and get well.

Dave Leffler

PS Thanks for the heads up Jim.

Hi Jon:

My wife and I are so verry sorry to hear of your injury. Our wish for you is to get well quickly. We thank you very much for the wonderful job all of the troops are doing to bring peace abroad and to keeping peace in the great United States of America. Once again God Bless you and get well real soon.

Richard & Louisa Reichmann

Jon,

Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery. I’m sure you do not consider yourself a hero as most true heroes don’t, but you are a hero in the eyes of most Americans.

Thank you for serving in Iraq so we can be safe here. May God bless you and your family. We will always be in debt to the brave men and women of our military.

Hi Jon,

As a former serviceman myself, I can’t be any prouder of the young generation of military men and women like yourself. Your sacrifice shows a big heart for your country and I pray that your country shows a big heart in return. Your next, and more important mission, is to raise a strong family and to do that, you must recover. I have no doubts that you have the right people in your corner, including your father-in-law, and that you’ll continue to make America proud. Best wishes for the fight that faces you and a proud salute to a professional soldier.

Dear Jim: I’ve been a practioner of Buddhism for 35 years and in that tradition there is a practice called Tonglin where as one is meditating, one focuses on sending out all that is of benefit to those who are suffering and actually taking in that suffering upon oneself. I will, with your permission, post a message with Jon’s name, location, and a brief description of injuries suffered to the Buddhist community to which I belong for meditators to include Jon in their Tomglin practice. George

P.S. I feel you need to give me permission to do this..

Jon, Thank you so much for the sacrifice you and your family have made. As a Vietnam Vet, I understand some of the hardships involved.

What you and the rest of the troops are accomplishing is way more important than most folks will ever know.

Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery. You will be in our prayers.

God bless,

D Scott :

Jon,

Thank you for your willingness to make the sacrifice of leaving your family and the comfort of home behind, and the ultimate sacrifice if necessary, to make a difference in the lives of others. I wish you a complete and speedy recovery. Stay cheerful and remember, with faith and hope all things are possible.

Vincent Moore :

Jon,

You and your fellow soldiers do a very honorable service to our country and the freedom our country represents. Without the dedication and love of your country that all the members of the military have, this country would not enjoy the freedoms that we have today. The same can be said for other countries where we have intervened in the name of helping them obtain or maintain their freedom.

The job of the US Military is, unfortunately, thankless at times. Even so, many of the members of the military make the ultimate sacrifice in the name of freedom.

I, my family, and my co-workers all want to say that we truly appreciate what you have done in the service of our great nation. We also appreciate every single member of our armed forces. You guys, and girls, fight the good fight and protect our way of life.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for everything. You’ll be in my prayers as will every other member of our military in harm’s way.

Best wishes on your recovery!

Vincent Moore

Greg Beverly :

God bless you Jon and God bless all of your fellow soldiers. Every day, we go about our business and every night, we lay our heads down for a good night’s sleep only because of brave men and women like you. We love you and we appreciate you.

You are in our prayers,
Greg Beverly

Dear Jon,

First and foremost THANK-YOU for the sacrafices you and your fellow soldiers make for us here in America every single day.

You will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery. (as will your family, your team members and their families) I think about and pray for all of you often. YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN!!!!

I too only know your Father through the internet and his newsletters. I think what he is doing for you and the others is wonderful. All of you need to know you are in hearts.

Please let your Father know what the soldiers would most like to receive, be it items and/or letters, so he can put it in his newsletter. Also let him know the best place to send them.

I would especially like to send letters and put together what I can in a gift/care package.

God Bless you and your family.

Paula

Jon,

How blessed we are to live in a country where men and women are willing to face the ultimate test and risk their life for a freedom we sometimes take for granted. I am sorry that we, as Americans, have a loss of life trying to help other people of other nations, but I know that God gave us such a great country because we (you) are willing to fight for the rights and priviledges we have as United States citizens. We cannot say it often enough, but THANK YOU and may God richly bless you and your family and may your recovery time be swift.

Doug :

Thanks for your service to our great country. It is men like you that keep the USA free. Your time spent there is worthwhile.

Hi Jon- take a deep breath- you did your job. Now it’s time for you to rest your mind and your body. Spend time with your wife and your family. I’ve been lucky enough to live the American Dream- I am a woman, I own my own business, my own house, and I do whatever it is that I want to do. It’s now your turn to live your dream. What do you want to do with your life? Don’t ever allow someone else to dictate your actions- if war doesn’t make you understand that, nothing else will. Your obligation to the government is now over- you owe it to yourself to give yourself and your community the other skills and talents that you possess. And now’s the time to do it!I wish you the best in life and hope that you fulfill your dreams.

Rich Hemstreet :

Hi Jon,

Thank you for serving to protect my family. My son-in-law is also in the military, but so far he has not been deployed. I know it’s easy for e to say, “My prayers are with you.” I wish I had something more I could do.

Frank Welzig :

Hi Jon,
As a Viet Nam vet I want to sincerely thank you for your service and your sacrifice. There are millions of Americans who support you as a soldier and a defender of our freedoms. Most of us don’t say much but we are forever grateful and will never forget you. We love you Jon.
Frank Welzig

Hi, Jon - here I am wishing you well.

The casualties of war are never far from our minds. Our mother was a nurse during WWII and served in Egypt and Italy. She often related stories about caring for wounded service men and women from “all” sides of the conflict and, as a nurse, she was dedicated to helping the wounded to recover. The wartime arguments were left behind at the hospital door and patients’ injuries were treated with care and discipline. I know you will be in the care of similar loving and dedicated medical teams who will bring strength and comfort to you to help you get better; they will also be supporting your family and friends and that’s just as it should be.

Best wishes for your recovery.
Margaret

David Derby :

Jon:

First, thank you for the sacrifices that you and all your fellow service men and women make to protect our way of life. As you move forward through your recovery and rehabilitation process, please know that the thoughts and prayers of many are with you. But above all, no matter what, believe in yourself and believe you will get through it.

Jon
A quote from a book that has ment a lot to me, and I hope it helps in your time of healing.
Jon, “you have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way. It is the Law of God, tne Law that Is.

Jon,

Sending you healing energy and strength to fight this next battle. You are up to this challenge!

I offer today’s message from The Universe (www.universe@tut.com), trusting that it will be what you need to understand at the time it reaches you:

++++++++++++++++++++++

Long, long ago, before there was even sand in the hourglass, there was a teeny, tiny dot, Jon — so small it was virtually invisible — that was presented to you as a gift.

At first, puzzled and perplexed, you thought it was a joke. Yet, trusting and inquisitive, your intuition led you to accept it and, before long, to carefully examine it.

And lo, after becoming extraordinarily teeny and tiny yourself, you found there was an entrance of sorts into this little treasure, in the form of a long and winding path. So inside you went, through the densest grove of ancient, moss-covered, bending oaks you will ever see. And before long, you found a shiny, gold, old-fashioned key that had been left upon a large, rounded stone, as if especially for you.

With key in hand you proceeded down the path until you arrived at a massive gate. Just above it there was a handwritten plaque for all who might pass beneath it:

“Welcome to the Jungles of Time and Space, Where nothing is as it seems, yet all things are possible. Should you ever feel lost or weary, Forget not from where you have come, And follow the signs…”

Peering between the wrought iron bars, you could see the entire Milky Way Galaxy and a hundred billion galaxies beyond it. Your thoughts raced, your imagination ran wild, and as you raised your key to the sturdy, reinforced lock, slowly slipping it in, and gently turning… there was a sudden flash of light and burst of sound. Whereupon, seemingly light-years later but, in fact, no longer than an instant, you found yourself in the most beautiful human form, living on the most beautiful little planet, having a wonderful life, a wrinkle of curiosity on your brow, reading this very Note, right here and now, as Jon H.

For all the US & UK soldiers out in Iraq and Afghanistan, come home safely. And, get well soon John H!

Yes, you have our prayers, not for just a speedy recovery, but for a COMPLETE AND PERFECT recovery for you and your family and loved ones. You are not alone in this; we each and all are touched, by your courage, your strength, your willingness and the same for your family.

I have a 17 year old son who is insulin dependent diabetic and he cannot serve our country due to this condition. When I look at him I think of what it is to have a son, husband, brother, sister, mother, daugher, friend, away and serving in the Armed Forces and what comes up for me is how brave and bold and compassionate you all are. To serve on behalf of others is a calling.

Please accept our well wishes and know that we hold you and your family in our thankful grateful prayers each day and again we send you the energy and the will for a whole complete and perfect recovery.

It’s hard to imagine how you must have felt in the last few days and weeks; how you must still be feeling after losing a colleague and coping with such injuries. I wish you and your family only the best. As a disabled veteran who works closely with the military, I have been amazed to see the quality of the men and women who wear the uniform today in support of our freedom! Hello Jim, Jon and Family,
Hats off to you and hearts out to you and your team. I am a Canadian who has always loved the States and has many dear friends below the 49th parallel and now, daughter, son-in-law and two dear American grandbabies. So why all that?
I know you serve your country well, and I appreciate you and all the US personnel overseas. Wherever I go in work and travelling, I speak to military folks. Why? because without what you do, most of the world would look different now, and certainly be a “less free” zone.
Jon, I’m so sorry for the loss of your buddy.

With love, and prayers for your and your team’s recovery, I bid you God speed and get well. You are precious and dear.
and THANKS for your great offering. “No greater love has a man or woman than that they would lay down their lives for another.”

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate experience. It reminds us all that life is short and each moment is precious. We should appreciate the gifts we have available to us. My warm wishes and hope for peace go out to you and your family and all of those in Iraq and similar war zones.

An Urgent Message About my Friend Jim Edwards’s Family (Please Help Right Now!)

Jon,

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss of a friend and health. I am praying for you! And for the others who came through the attack, as well as for the family of the young man who died. My husband and uncles fought in the Vietnam war (I never call it a conflict), so I know a little about loss and valor. Thanks for everything you have done to make our country safer. I also know something of how time heals old wounds. Hang in there! Through all the therapy and everything else . . . it will be worth it in the long run!

Jon —

Unfortunately we still live in a world where fighting men and women must do what they do to preserve our precious freedoms. And make no mistake, you and your colleagues are that wall of protection.

Freedom is not about democracy, its about something far more important: Liberty. As fighting men and women of the United States you help to preserve our rights to be different, hold different views, worship as we please (or not all), speak out against or wholeheartedly support one ideology or the other. Your bravery and muscle allows us freedom to choose how we work, play and live; all without fear of reprisals or oppression. This is rare in history and indeed all too rare in today’s world.

The value of being an American is not about being in the majority and fearing no harm.

Quite the contrary.

It’s about being in the MINORITY and fearing no evil! This is Liberty! It’s the most precious and sacred thing we as Americans possess and you help to preserve and sustain it.

There are those external forces that seek to destroy this liberty and freedom. And we should all be fully aware that it is you and other soldiers, sailors, marines, airmen and coasties who put yourselves in harms way (sometimes with tragic consequences) to stop it. I for one am grateful to you and to them and to all who preceded you.

Jon, it is my hope that you and your colleague find comfort and solace in these words. My prayers are with you.

s/ Daniel Hall

Hi Jon:

First, thank you for serving and for risking your life for our freedom. As a veteran of the Vietnam era, I know what it can be to serve when all at home aren’t necessarily behind you. You are a true hero.

Second, we hope and pray for your speedy recovery. May God watch over you and miraculously heal you from your injuries.

Thanks again.

Jon:
G-d speed on your road to recovery.

While we will probably never meet ….you should know that there are tens of millions of Americans and hundreds of millions of “free” people throughout the World that are deeply in your debt, and the debt of your brave fellow warriors serving our country throughout the world.

We owe an enormous debt to you and all the young people of our Nation; who like you have had the courage and the leadership to stand up and face the ultimate sacrifice for that which you believe in, and which you wished to protect your family from.

The courage and steel which you have so clearly demonstrated with your heroic actions; can only foretell a great and honorable future for you and your young family.

We hope that the knowledge that there are so many millions of people who consider you and your comrades “true hero’s” will provide some comfort during your convalescence.

We all wish you a wonderful, happy and healthy future.

You deserve it.

Our prayers are with you at this time of need. May you make a speedy recovery. We are thinking of you. Very brave, and the future is bright.

Dave C in NJ :

Hey Big Jon H.
WE are all proud and thankful for the work you do that we can’t do ourselves.
Since there is no room in “Healing” for politics (heck there is hardly enought room for us in there with God, Source, Spirit & Love of family and friends)
Clear your heart and mind and get well.

Dave C in NJ

Sending prayers for a quick and successful recovery for your son-in-law.
God bless him.
joy

You honor us far more than we can ever honor you. You and your fellow soldiers are doing what is asked of you by your country and, no matter what our personal feelings about this conflict, we can never repay your service and duty.

In a world of cluttered chatter that appears to focus on celebrity, empty riches, and the outlandish, it is sobering when duty, honor, service, and heroism are displayed.

I know what it feels like to be down, to feel low, but I also know you have millions of Americans who truly honor you. You have the love of your friends and family. You are not alone and please always remember that persistence, perseverance, and hope are your best medicine.

When you are down, reach out, and there will always be a hand ready to shake yours.

One final thought. No matter how hard it may seem, smile at least once ever hour. Soon it becomes a habit that not only makes you happier, but it will infect everyone around you.

Thank you

Dave :

God bless you and get well soon.

Dear Jon,

I am so sorry you lost a companion, soldier, and probably even friend. And, I am very sorry for your own suffering and the suffering of your 3 fellow soldiers.

It must be terrifying for you now, to think that one of the 5 in this horrible incidence died. Along with this comes guilt. Guilt that it was him/her, guilt that no one could prevent it.

Don’t ever let either fear or guilt grab hold of you beyond your recuperation time.

You can come back, spring up, and become a stronger and yet more sensitive person from this.

Is there any good in this? I don’t think so! But, you can still make it work for the good of YOU.

All the very best to you and your family. They suffer along with you and share your fear and pain with you.

And, I already wish you a peaceful Chirstmas. Perhaps you will be one of the few who will truly come to know and understand this season in a way none of us do.

Take Care,
Ruth,

God bless you and yours!!!

Jon,

I don’t usually take the time to write on blogs, but I just got Jim’s email and wanted to let you know that the only people I admire are our soldiers.

It takes alot of courage to do what you do, and not a day passes that I don’t appreciate what you and our other soldiers do for me and my loved ones.

Thank you and get well soon.

Roger :

Dear Jon,

My thoughts go out to you and all your fellow soldiers from the USA and the UK who have such a difficult job to do and do it so well. I hope you have a speedy and full recovery.

Hi Jim, Thank you for having the courage to ask for support for Jon. It’s family that will help get him …and everyone else… through the next phase of life. I have a grandson who just returned from Iraq and is scheduled for another tour next year. I know the deep pride and love that goes with the concern and prayers to bring them home safely. My thoughts are with you and Terri and your family too. Please tell Jon he is appreciated and has learned courage and strength… that will help get him through this battle as well.

Jon, god bless you and the other troops out there doing your job, while the rest of us are nice and comfortable back here! I would love to hold a candle fundraiser to raise money for needed supplies for all of the families and troops that need supplies, god bless you and I hope your recovery is quick.

Jon-

During a particularly tough stretch, I kept repeating to myself, “All news is good news… all news is good news.” For awhile, it was the sarcastic side of me that would find the “positive” aspects of my situation. Slowly, very slowly, I began to see a few bright spots, and eventually my attitude turned around.

I want you to know that many of the worst things that have happened to me in the past, I was later grateful for. The reason why is because they often led to something so much better. I think that’s true for most of us, if we’re honest.

I believe that the sooner you start recognizing and acknowledging what’s RIGHT about your situation, the sooner your attitude improves, and the faster you start seeing the opportunities showing up. They were probably always there, but the shift in point of view makes them “appear.” Whether it’s the love and support of your family and close ones, the fact that you get to live another day, the things you notice that you’re now so grateful for that you paid no attention to before this happened, whatever it is- focus on it. Keep telling yourself, “All news is good news,” and eventually you’ll prove yourself right.

I wish you the very best.

Thank you so much for giving of yourself to danger and the terror of war to protect both your loved ones and ours. Itrust you wll be well again and you will be in my prayers.

I would like to share with you a poem I wrote for the military who are serving both our countries at this time.
If you like it I would love to send you a free copy of it
framed and matted if you send me an address to ship it to.
God bless you and soldiers everywhere who are protecting our families at home.

The Soldier’s Prayer

Dear Lord,

I know as morning breaks on high,
‘Twas You who kept us through the night.
By now our loved ones are asleep,
I pray Thee Lord, their souls to keep.
In this distant land; so far from them,
We only know we must defend . . .
Our schools, families, neighbors, friends.
’Til this cruel war comes to an end.
I pray that You will give me strength
And courage, Lord, to undertake . . .
Whatever task that You have planned;
Their lives and mine are in your hand.
I know the call this very night,
Could be to save a buddy’s life;
Please help me fill the call from Thee
And give the best that is in me.
Keep my mind alert and keen
To see and hear, not miss something
That might be overlooked in fright,
And someone die this very night.
Help me Lord to walk with care
Knowing danger’s always there.
Give me strength to withstand fear
Protecting all that we hold dear.
I know today may be the time,
My life is laid upon the line!
And if I’m called my life to give,
Protect my loved ones
who still live.
Keep me now within
Thy care;
Please grant
Dear Lord,
“A Soldier’s Prayer.”

Hello PFC Jon H,

Thanks to the efforts of your father-in-law Jim, you’ve got an entire brigade of civilians here and throughout the world praying for not only your speedy recovery but the speedy recovery of your buddies and your entire outfit.

Please know that we who are protected by the safety and security that you provide for us are eternally grateful!

The Bible says that there is no greater sacrifice than if one gives up his life for another. Many in Iraq, Afghanistan, and throughout the world have given no less than “the ultimate sacrifice” for us, your brothers.

And so “your brothers” come before our Heavenly Father’s throne to ask for His mercy, His guidance, His protection and His healing Power and Peace to be with you from the top of your head to the bottom of your feet. Father, we ask you to send your Holy Spirit to minister to each one, to fill them with the peace and understanding that only you can fill them with. Father we stand on your word that as you send your word of healing in every way, that you be glorified in this situation.

In Jesus’ name, we thank you Heavenly Father for answering our prayers.

PFC Jon, may the Creator of the Universe, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob open the windows of Heaven and pour out His abundant blessings upon you, your buddies, the doctors and nurses, your entire family and anyone you come in contact with, that He may be glorified in the miracles that He is about to do in all of your lives.

Amen.

Jon, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing guard for us, your brothers.

Janice :

Jon,
I am so sorry that you have suffered during this war and for the loss of your friends and comrades. You and all of the other soldiers have sacrificed so much of yourselves to protect the rest of us in the USA and the people in Iraq. I am proud of all of you, for your courage, your pride, your selflessness. Please believe that you are all heroes to us back home. You will not be forgotten!! You will be honored and appreciated for the rest of your lives. Thank you!!!!
I will pray for your speedy recovery and that you will find peace in knowing that you have done a great service for your family and your country. God Bless America!!! Stay Strong!!
Janice

Mercy :

Hi Jon!

Thank you for all you have done for our country. I’ll pray for your prompt recovery. I strongly encourage you to read “The Purpose Driven Life” book. It will help you find answers that only you can discover. And like my mom always told me: “Don’t worry. There is always a light at the end of any dark tunnel”. Take care!

Jon-

Gratitude cannot be expressed strongly enough for the heroism you display just by putting on the uniform. God speed on a full recovery physically, and God’s healing peace on your life as you face the memories.

My children know the true definition of the word hero. It is men like you.

A grateful American,

Jim Cockrum

Hi Jon!

I’m so sorry to hear about your injury, the injuries of your friends, and the loss of your one friend. As I write this, I am praying for your healing, physically and in every way. I’ll also pass this on to the prayer list at Northpoint, a 15,000 member church here in Atlanta.

Just by reading through some of these posts, I can see that there is and is going to be a tremendous amount of prayer and healing heading right at you.

I want you to know that I, my 13 year old son Jonathon and my 5 year old son Caleb are deeply deeply grateful to you and your friends for what you have done and are doing, so we are able to do what we love here.

I’m praying specifically that thru this awful experience, God holds you up and comforts you, and loves on you big time. I have a strong sense that you are going to somehow use this experience for great good.

My thoughts and prayers will be with your during this time.

And when your father-in-law shows up, make sure the nurses don’t let him wear that red Hawaiin shirt in the hospital…..

God bless you and keep you

Jeff Herring, Jonathon & Caleb

My son’s name is Jon so your story is particularly poignant for me. As a Canadian who works in the US, I have the greatest respect for people like you Jon who put your life on the line every day so that my family and I can enjoy the freedom we have. We can never take this for granted. We do not.

God’s ways are not our ways but I know he is watching over you and your family. Our prayers are with you. God bless.

Thank you for being there when your country needed you. Please accept my heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for you and the others that survived. My deepest sympathy for your fallen comrade. I believe that your paths are among the most difficult on this earth to walk and my family and I appreciate your sacrifices.

I wish to include a quote from a truly great lady, Pearl Bailey. ” We look into mirrors but we only see the effects of our times on us — not our effects on others.”

Jon you truly are a hero and a blessing to this country.
You and your friends are in my prayers. May God aide the medical staff in helping God restore your health.
God Bless You,
Ruth

It is hard to write because my tears make the screen all blurry. I sincerely hope Jon is able to recover and join his family soon. I wish the wars would end so there wouldn’t be any more injuries to our loved ones. I too have a family member in Iraq and fear for him.
Thank you for your service - I wish you a speedy, complete recovery.

We are so thankful for your service to our country. You are the true heros of our time. A real example of bravery and courage. I hope those attributes will help you through healing and rehabilitation.

Take care and God Bless,

Heidi :

Jon - I grieve with you over the loss of your team-member and the grave injuries to yourself and your fellow soldiers. I will keep your families in my daily meditations.

Such an experience is very traumatic and I hope that you will be able to feel the love and support that surrounds you from your family, your friends, and even complete strangers.

Like the topaz in the toad’s head
the comfort in the terrible histories
was up front, easy to find:
Once upon a time in a kingdom far away.
Even to the dreadful now of news
we listened comforted
by far timezones, languages we didn’t speak,
the wide, forgetful oceans.
Today, no comfort but the jewel courage.
The war is ours, now, here, it is our republic
facing its own betraying terror.
And how we tell the story is forever after.

– Ursula K. Le Guin

Love to you and yours. Rest, recover in love and light.

Hello Jon,

From an Ex-British Royal Marine - I send you heartfelt greetings and wishes for a speedy recovery, together with thanks for all that U.S. and U.K. troops are doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Michael

Every soldier in Irak and any other war is there serving a duty and believe that they are helping his country and the other country.
These are beautiful ideals and they should be proud of that!
When you believe you are doing good, you really are in your heart!
I love every one of the soldiers for that, and grieve with every loss of young life. Your cause is a noble one and we are proud of you. Regardless of how we feel about this war, we still feel honor to have you guys putting your lives on the line. God will alway help those who believe they are doig good.

Thank you for the sacrifice you are making for me..My heartfelt wishes for a complete recovery..the sooner the better..and grateful prayers for you and your friends,

Sincerely,
Doc

Hi, Jon,
Thank you so much for laying your life on the line for our country and our freedom and the lives of others. The Bible says that there is no greater love than a friend who will lay his life down for his friends, and I believe the Lord intends that to be for all of our brothers and sisters in this earth. May God bless you and pour out his healing virtues upon your body, mind, heart, soul, and spirit, and on the others involved. May he bring comfort and peace to all. Remember, Jesus is the healer, and I know this first hand. I am believing for His healing for all of you, and pray for the troops and thier families continuously. We often don’t understand why things that happen are allowed to happen by our Creator, but He promised us that He would always be with us, and would send us a comforter to help us. My prayers are with you, your family and friends, and thier families as well for all your needs to be met abundantly! May God bless you today and every day in Jesus’ name.
In His service,

Mark :

I really feel sorry for all those - on all sides - that have been caught up in this mess. War is so unnecessary, yet so commonplace. My son is just about to embark upon an Army career - it’s is his choice but as a parent I can’t help but worry.

You have been the unwilling victim of something you knew could happen but could hardly envisage. You friend and colleague was killed and you need strength to get over not only your own physical injuries but the mental torment that you must be feeling.

I don’t know you but I wish you, and all your colleagues, well. I pray that you will overcome your difficulties and regain strength and stature so that you may hide the scars and be with your family and friends again. be sure, when you come through this (and you must) to remember your friends who have not succeeded in doing so. be strong for your family and friends, make new goals to achieve and new targets to aim for. God bless you.

Jon,

Thank you cannot begin to describe the gratitude my family wishes to express to you today. Our country has had a long history of men with a purpose standing in the gap so that we can all enjoy the freedoms and life that we do today.

I would recommend a good book, The Light and the Glory” by John Marshall. If I were king, I’d make this book required reading for every American. It depicts the dedication and bravery that our country was built upon and what soldiers such as yourself have continued to do to preserve this, the greatest experiment in democracy the world has ever known.

Our prayers are with you and your team for a speedy and complete recovery. God Bless you and God Bless America.

Jon,

It’s guys like you that keep The USA and the rest of the free world a great model to be held by all. You have sacrificed yourself everyday for our American liberties and I thank you for that. Freedom will ring because of your great dedication and love for our country.

You are in my prayers for a speedy recovery and the long and happy life that awaits you. Thank you Jon!

Best regards,
Lee Lontoc

Tracy :

Dear Jon,
After reading all these positive comments and prayers sent for your recovery, I felt so renewed. I’m hoping that you do, too. Just let them wrap you up in a blanket of love and hopefulness. Prayer is effective, and what a lot of power is behind all these expressed here.

It just really goes to show you, and all those serving on America’s behalf, that we do respect and are sympathetic to what our fellow citizens who step up to the call are going through — regardless of our politic beliefs. We honor you with gratitude!

If you are in need of a laugh, check out this charming video of a dancing cockatoo. It can’t help but put a smile on your face!

My best regards to you and your family. You’ve got world-wide support for a complete recovery, Jon!

My prayer for you… You find the strength to deal with what happen to you. Accept the love of your family when they help carry you when you need carrying. You attract the right professional when you need them. You understand the mind, body and spirit connection, and your Belief that you can be healed in all 3.

Best of Luck

Jon

Thank you so much for your courage in volunteering to serve and defend our country. As an Army brat, I know the feeling of being a part of the proud US military family - and I know you feel that same pride.

Over the coming months you will go through a roller coaster of feelings - and there’s nothing any of us out here in cyberland can do to directly help you through those times. Just know that we’re very grateful for you and we stand behind you.

You are blessed with a family who cares for you so much. Please let them in so that they can shower the love you deserve on you.

My best wishes for your speedy recovery.

Jeanette

John the service you and your brothers and sisters have provided for this country is immeasurable! The work, the training and all the sacrifice’s you have made can never be repaid. Hi Jon,

They say that you can either stand behind the troops or stand in front of the troops.

I’m 100% behind the troops. And thank God for that.

Thank you and all the men and women in the US armed forces who stand in the way of harm in order to protect our way of life.

Joel Hunt :

Hello Jon,

Thank you for your willingness, bravery, and courage in fighting for our great country. Words cannot express the gratitude my family and I feel for you, particularly knowing of your serious injury. God bless you both physically and spiritually. Our prayers are with you.

I wrote a poem a few years ago that I want to dedicate to you.

THIS THOROUGHBRED NEVER QUITS
(Dedicated to Jon H. who was critically injured in Iraq)

Dignity and grace dominate his gait,
This spirited stallion keeps his head held high,
His endurance legendary, he does not hesitate,
Charging headlong into challenges, not asking why,
For this thoroughbred never quits!

Although his race is difficult and long,
He keeps himself healthy, steadfast, and strong.
He looks not longingly to the left, nor to the right,
He simply forges forward with all of his might,
For this thoroughbred never quits!

His legs may grow weary, his lungs brightly burn,
Yet, he does not waver for a single moment!
Determination carries him, though his energy is spent,
Nothing will stop him from making the turn,
For this thoroughbred never quits!

He realizes fully the race is not his,
Overwhelming at times, his obstacles seem,
His head begins pounding, his clear vision blurs,
Yet, nothing! No, nothing! will vanish his dream,
For this thoroughbred never quits!

For his loved ones, he wholeheartedly lives,
His life for them, he freely gives.
And, to his last breath, since his love is so pure,
For his beloved wife and son, he will ever endure,
For this thoroughbred never quits!

Just remember the power of prayer and positive thinking - so as a man thinketh, so shall he become… :-)

Jon,

I’m very sorry to hear of your injury and those of your colleagues. Through my family experiences I can relate very closely to where you are now, if for rather different reasons than your own. My father joined the UK military in his mid teens to finish his education to become an engineer in the 1930’s. Sadly, he was injured and he was invalided out before even completing his training. His challenge was to choose a new path in life. He had to work hard but he did better than he could ever have hoped. Fate sometimes has a brutal sense of humour - I was destined for a military career and ironically I could not follow this route because of injuries I had sustained when I was younger (I just didn’t realise that they would sink my plans). Just like my father I had to choose a new path. I don’t know how your cards will stack but if you do have to make changes to “plan A” then with commitment you will be amazed at what you can achieve. You have a great family on your side and they will give you the strength to pull through.

Very best wishes from the south of England. Keep up the good work.

All the best, Richard

Good luck, Jon. You’ve yout your family’s love and support behind you, that will take you very far. Thank you and wishing you a boundless recovery. Kay, Boston, MA.

We are praying for your speedy recovery.

As a student of history, I am often reminded of the
courage of you who now defend us and those who have
stepped up to the plate in the past to do so–
often at great personal sacrifice.

Thanks for your service!

Thank you for your sacrifices and courage. From one old soldier to a young one, you will never be forgotten. The people of this country are behind you and wish you a fast recovery.

Joh,

The work that you and other young men and women do for us is tremendous. I thank you for your service and your sacrifice.

As the father of a son, a Marine, who has served recently in Iraq, I understand the stress that you and your family face as a result of your service and incresingly due to your injury. You and the members of your team are special to our family. We will pray for you, your team, and your family. We hope for your speedy and full recovery.

We thank you for being a hero to us and more importantly to your son. We thank you for being willing to protect our freedom.

Stephanie Trahd :

Hey Jon,

Looks like you’ve got some reading ahead of you here! When I first came to this page, there were 98 comments. Fifteen minutes later, there are 215!

As a proud American, I don’t think there are ever enough opportunities for me to express my gratitude to our brave men and women who serve to protect our freedoms. I am extremely proud and grateful for your service, as I am for your brothers and sister in arms.

My nephew joined the Guard last year, and is expecting to go over in 2009. It’s said to think that we’ll still be there then, but I know it’s a reality. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t worry and pray for him, his safety, and all of our troops.

I’m sorry for the losses you have already experienced in your young life, and I hope you know that your friends who have gone before you would want you to live a full and happy life, as you would have wanted for them. Love your wife, your child, and your life (and tolerate your father-in-law!) as best you can!

God bless you Jon!

Hi Jon,

May you and your Team members make a very speedy recovery. Our thoughts and prayers are with you guys.

The Power of your mind when recalling special times or when listening to some particular music can generate a sizzle of endorphins within you to help your healing process.

Think positive, think only of the good things - your family, your friends and anything you hold most dear and then target something special as a major Goal for the future.

Do not let anybody tell you that you cannot do it because you can and you will. Be courageous, be determined and let nothing stop you from achieving your goal.

The best of luck to you and your team.

Take good care

I can only repeat what everyone else here is saying: I, too, want you to get well as soon as is humanly possible.

I know you’ll do it. And it is so wonderful that you have so many people rooting for you!

Thoughts are with you from here in UK. Most of us believe we should never have gone into Iraq putting our boys and girls at risk. As usual politicians never listen to the views of the people and make decisions without consulting us. My personal view and that of many Brits is we as in the Brits and Americans should pull out and tell the ubber Rich Saudis to finance and provide security and an assistance to Iraq. It is not our war so lets get out.

Jon,

I’ll be thinking of you and your family during your recovery. I’m wishing you a speedy recover so you can live life with your family.

Dear Jim,

Please convey to your son-in-law, Jon, and his friends how proud and thankful we are of them that they have made these tremendous sacrifices for the rest of us. I don’t know that most of us could be this brave and courageous to put our lives at stake that way that they have. We are all indebted to them for thier willingness to serve on all of our behalf.

It is heartbreaking to hear of their being harmed and I will pray them and their families. May God grant your son-in-law a speedy recovery.

Dale in Canada :

Greetings Jon,
Your father-in-law has educated, as well as humored many over the years, and it saddens me to think a close member of his family has been affected by such circumstances.
As your close neighbour, we too have young men and women in the region helping to preserve the western world’s freedom and security. It is easy to forget how you all spend your day over there until we hear of such an incident. I am grateful to travel all over North America without the risks that you faced daily. For that alone I thank you!
I wish you a speedy recovery and hope that you watch what your father-in-law does so that you can emulate him and create enough income to look after your family and reach that other freedom that we all strive for as well.

Best wishes from your Canadian friends.

Joan :

Dear Jon,

I am so happy you are back in the states, safe, albeit injured. Thank you for your bravery and character. I don’t know what I would do if faced with the same challenge. I am very proud to be an American. When I think about our heros, our troops in Iraq who are doing so much to protect the freedom and self determination of every fellow human being, I realize how special this country is. Thank you. Joan

Bob B in Boulder :

Jon,
Not having walked in your shoes I can’t begin to say I understand how tough it must be over there, I can only imagine how difficult it must really be.
As we go about our daily lives here in the US, we know that the war continues to rage on hour by hour, day after day and troops like you and others continue to fight and sacrifice day and night to help make the world a safer place for the rest of us. I thank you for your sacrifice and your commitment…we are are all in your debt….our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family…Here’s to a speedy and complete recovery

Martyn :

Dear Jon,

Thank you for keeping us safe.

David Garfinkel :

Jon,

I’ve known your father-in-law for a long time, as a friend, co-author, business partner, and mentor (make no mistake, HE mentored ME!). He’s a good man. He wouldn’t be doing this for you otherwise.

Listen, I know what happened to you hurts, you were giving your best for the rest of us and you don’t deserve what happened to you. It’s just how the cards fell.

What I want to say is, without sounding like Pollyana, to count your blessings. The world might seem like a very scary and cold place right now, and as an American I wish we were taking better care of our Vets than we are. But you are lucky to have family that cares about you the way you do. Jim in particular is loyal as the day is long, and your mother-in-law is an especially wonderful person, too.

My heart goes out to you and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Damien :

Hi Jon,

All the way from Ireland. I just want to wish you all the best and a speedy recovery to you and your friends.

We tend to forget the sacrifice you guys make for the rest of us and unfortunatley it’s times like these that bring it home.

We’ll raise a Guinness to you in the pub this week.

Take care.

Jon,
We do not know each other, but I have been a follower of your father-in-law for some time. I am always saddened to hear of the injuries and deaths of our people, so much so that I refuse to watch the news or read newspapers. I was recently personally touched by the combat when a young man from our church, the same age and personal friend of my son, was deployed with his unit to Iraq. I pray every day for his safety, but I now add you to my personal communication with God, for your recovery to be a quick and complete work. I have never served in the military. No matter what any of us think about the war, you were called and answered the call of our country, for that I am grateful and proud. I pray no more of our young patriots be asked to sacrifice for this cause.

God speed a quick recovery. Enjoy the love and attention of your family.

Jon,
As an active duty Soldier myself I know the trials and tribulations you face on a daily basis. I’m at the end of my career but I’m thankful knowing we have young leaders such as yourself taking up the reins to do what many will never experience, and that is protecting our country against all enemies, both foreign and domestic.

I’m proud to call you teammate and wish you a speedy recovery and sincerly thank you for what you’re doing for this country. Keep your spirits high and get better.

Stay stong young man…….Army Strong!!

Respectfully,
CPT(P) Timothy A. Gorman (TimG)

We have been praying and supporting our troops from day one. Our son is a Capitan in the Marine Corps and has served 4 (7month) tours in Iraq and has had far too many of his troops killed or severely injured. God bless the valor and sacrifice our men and women in the service are making for our freedom. We thank you and wish you the best for your future. Bill & Pat Puetz

PAM HORAN :

DEAR JON,

LET ME FIRST TO START OFF THIS CONVERSATION AS SAYING THANK YOU FOR MY FREEDOM. I APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DID IN IRAQ FOR US. YOU ARE A HERO. I PRAY THAT YOUR FLIGHT HOME IS SWIFT AND QUICK. Grove Digital :

Hello Jon and greetings from sunny, but cold England, UK.
We have all chipped in to send you this short message in the hopes it may cheer you somehow knowing we are all thinking about you and your colleagues who are doing a great job for world peace.
Make a speedy recovery.
From myself and my staff at Grove Digital Ltd.

Dear John, Jim and everybody involved.

I was so saddened to hear of Jon’s injuries. You have my deepest sympathy and utmost support. I send a million cyber hugs your way. I admire you tremendously Jon for having the courage you obviously have. When you are feeling down, please remember that your sacrifices ARE appreciated by many, although sometimes it may not seem that way. You WILL recover fully and you WILL have a wonderful time raising that positively gorgeous baby of yours. You have lots to look forward to, dear. God bless you and I wish you a speedy recovery. If you’re ever near Tennessee, stop by for a home cooked meal. I make a killer apple pie! Or hey….if it’s allowed, give me a mailing address and I’ll ship some up there for the whole gang! Better than Sara Lee, guaranteed!

I only know your father-in-law thru his Internet marketing but I have hung around enough to know he is a man of true heart and integrity. I met others in the family in Atlanta and found them to be marvelous and fun. You are lucky to be part of such a loving family.

Again, chin up sweetheart. Sometimes reality bites…but you will make it thru. I promise. I’ve never been in combat, but I’ve been thru my own similar hell and I know from personal experience that a positive attitude (and prozac :) really help. One day at a time.

You have lots of love and support. Good luck and God bless you darling.

Hugs to all,
Lorraine Grula

Dear Jon:
I was very sorry to hear that you were woundeded. I am very grateful that you have been willing to defend our great country.

As you work toward recovery, my hope and prayer for you is that you seek out a positive thought or two each day - one positive thought a day will make a huge difference. The best thoughts are around the love of your family and your friends. They need you. That beautiful baby needs you. We all need you - you are still here because there is more for you to do. We are all connected. In fact, in writing this, I am reminded that I, too, must think positively - there is a lot more for me to do, too. Thank you for reminding me, Jon. God Bess You and Keep You. Bob

Hi Jon,

I just want to tell you that I believe in what you do and I support your efforts as well as all your fellow brave men and women that do such a great job in defending the freedoms of this great country.

I have been preaching this message of appreciation and support for our troops through my music for years. Veteran’s Day is always a special time of year and with it soon approaching I also want to send my Love to all of them.

I’m sure you’re the type of man that if you had to do it all over again you would. That is the mark of a real hero in my book.

I pray for your speedy recovery back to 100% mobility and God Bless you for all the sacrifices you have made along with the sacrifices your family has made.

Remain positive in these times and know most of all that we all support you along with your family and friends.

Thanks Hero,

Dennis :

Hi Jon,

In some way, you might consider it twisted thinking - but I envy the challenges you have endured, and the tragedies you have experienced.

Why? Because a lot of people actually live through horrible experiences, and they come out as infinitely better persons.

Perhaps someday, your name will be in the headlines, citing you for an earth-shattering accomplishment, that brings you to the attention of the planet; having contributed not only to America, but to all humanity.

At that moment, you might think back to this tragic day: the time when your personal growth was accelerated beyond your comprehension.

God Bless You and your buddies.

Vicki Line :

I don’t know your name and I will not remember your face but I will always remember your sacrifice. You are a hero! So many strive so hard to be a success or to leave a legacy. But you and so many thousand others have already accomplished that so early in your life. Your legacy will live on as long as freedom and this amazing country endure. The time taken from your family and accomplishing your own dreams, the lonely days away from home, and the pain you now suffer allow me and all Americans to enjoy what no other nation has ever known. Thank you! And it allows me the freedom to openly write a message about my unwavering belief in my God who answers prayers and heals all who ask.

As for me and my house…we sincerely appreciate all your sacrifice on behalf of the US and the freedom loving people of the world.

Thank you, and may God Bless You and Yours!

Kelvin Parker :

Hello Jon,

May God bring to you a speedy recovery … and to your comrades also.

You should know just how truly, deeply at a heartfelt level millions of people are grateful for your courage in defending USA.

I came to the United States in 1990 because it IS the greatest place on earth to live a free, prosperous and passionate life.

I fought for years to bring my children back to the United States so they could have the same opportunity.

And I know all too well, the life I and my family enjoy would not be so if not for the bravery of the men and women and families of the US military.

So we all are in your debt…

May God smile upon you and your family forever.

Kelvin

Jon,

Get well soon man.
We all appreciate your service will be sending you good vibes for a speedy recovery.

Thanks!

Jon,

I was sorry to hear that you were wounded. Though we have never met, I just wanted you to know that I, and many others like me, think of our troops and the price they pay every day. I have heard many service member say that they feel like those back home probably don’t think much about them as we here on the home front are not really on a war footing, we hear about the war in the media, no rationing, no real impact on our pre war lifestyle, and there is something wrong with that I think. To be a soldier, and to be a volunteer soldier even in peacetime is a sacrifice, let alone to be involved in armed conflict where you see and experience things that tear away the thin veil of civilization that we civilians enjoy is to be changed forever. Whatever anyone’s opinions are about this conflict, matters liitle in this context. Those relative few who stand up for us, who fight for us, who are wounded and killed for us forever have my gratitude, admiration and respect. God bless you and all your comrads, and I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.

Hi Jon,

You are blessed, believe it. You are alive for a reason …surviving an accident as serious as the one you were involved in. You have people you dont even know who are proud of your courage and sacrifice as well as that of your friends weather dead or alive. you served your country with the sincerity of your heart and thats all that matters. As you recover, may the light of God shine on you and may the safer environment you have helped to create for your little boy, wife, family and all of us be our consolation and joy. You are much more than a wounded leg . You are a fighter ad you will definitely come through this a stronger and better man than even before. Make God strengthen you during this time.

Jon,

No matter what anyone thinks of any war we (and I) appreciate everything you and the other people are doing over there. My church has invited a complete company of troops to our church just a couple of days before they left for Iraq. That includes all of their families. They were all fed a good meal and we had a special service with them all. We thanked them for what they were doing and we asked Gods blessing on them in this under taking. One year later when they returned we invited them all back and that God for their return and we also thanked this company for the service they had given our country.
Later they were called back to go again and we did the same thing all over again.
I will ask the people of my church to put you on our prayer list and bring your name before the Lord that he may heal you fast and complete.

THANK YOU for what you have done form the bottom of our hearts.

Bea :

Dear Jon,
You are literally one in a million. Thank you! Few people make the decision to serve our country, and as a former military officer, I know the sacrifice, and you can be proud that so many appreciate yours. My entire family says thank you for your bravery, patriotism and love for your country.

I live in Istanbul where I have daily reminders that our men and women are doing what they signed up to do. With a son as a former Marine and a father who suffered terribly from the effects of WWII, I know you gave everything and will continue to do so for your entire life.

My mother at 83 still volunteers three times a week at our local VA Hospital. I know others like you who are in her care and hope you have her kind of help to oversee your recovery. You are in our thoughts, prayers and hopes for a future filled with more challenges of a happier variety.

I wish you every success to a speedy recovery and a life filled with joy.
With deep respect and thanks, Bea

Get well soon.

Mike (UK)

Jon,

I truly pray a speedy recovery for you and your team members.

I recently read about the Law of the Few and how most things that happen in life don’t occur because of what the masses do, but because of what the Few do.

You are one of the Few who are willing and able to stand in the gap for others, even when it may not be the most popular or profitable thing to do.

So my heartfelt thanks goes out to you and your team members for being a part of the Few.

If you are looking for some very interesting reading during your recovery (in addition to the Bible), then check out Tipping Point and Blink, both my Malcom Gladwell. These are two of the most interesting books I have ever read.

Thanks again!

Hi Jim,

I couldn’t agree with you more. Regardless of how we feel about individual wars, we must never forget that real men and women answer the call to fight them. Jon and his friends are heroes, and my heart and my prayers go out to them.

Jon,

It is because of you that we are free. It is because of you that our children can eat and sleep at night. It is because of you that we can worship when, where and how we want. It’s because of you that men and women can both earn a living.

I personally thank you for your courage and determination to be of service for our country. There is a beacon of light surrounding you and a hedge of protection over you.

Trust and believe that all is well and that your recovery will be expedient, comfortable, and in good order. We’re all rootin’ for you here at home.

Respect Jon,

None of my words can ever adequately describe the gratitude I feel for your contribution to keeping the world a safer place. This in no way compensates or justifies your personal suffering and the road to recovery only you can take. I hope that in some way, knowing so many people truly care will help you to feel you are not alone and I know that there will be times when you will still feel that only you have to push through the recovery process. At those times, it would be good for you to remember the well wishes of the many who want you to march forward, who are willing you to do what none of us can do for you - get well soon. With enormous respect, Kathy Strong

Hi Jon,

Thank you so much for serving in our military and protecting the interests of our country. After spending most of my childhood overseas, I sincerely appreciate America, the liberty we have, and the people who protect that liberty.

I know you are facing some challenges right now. If you are a reader, I highly recommend you get a copy of the book “How High Can You Bounce?” by Roger Crawford. This book helped me to get through some extremely trying times in my own life.

You are so fortunate to have a wonderful family who loves and supports you. Lean on them when you need them but don’t be afraid to push yourself when you need to.

Remember that you can only do what you can do and that one thing at a time is enough.

I will remember you in my thoughts and prayers. Best wishes for a speedy return to health and a joyful reunion with your family.

Warm Appreciative Greetings Jon!

First off, FLOWING STREAMS OF THANKS BEYOND WORDS for your service to uphold the values and beliefs of this nation. You and your fellow comrades fighting a difficult struggle that affect millions, in a postive way, for many years to come.

Jon,
Thank You for your and your comrades’ personal sacrifices to protect our freedom. You are a Hero! May your recovery be quick and complete. My prayers & positive energy joins that of the thousands of Jim’s subscribers to the healing of your injuries. Thank You.

My family is praying for you for a full recovery. Thank you for your service. Best wishes!

dj :

Dear Jon,

Wow, What you must be going through! I thank you and all your mates for the effort and sacrifice you are making. I am a vietnam era veteran and I am sure you have heard times then were different. We barley had calculator training and now we rush to read our internet mail each day. Computers well they took a whole room for themselves. You would think for all the advances we have made in this century we would be smarter. Guess that is not always the case. My heart felt wishes go out to you and your family. Each and every one of us must learn to take life a little slower. My wife was diagnosed with a brain tumor 2 years ago. We were told nothing but doom and gloom how this is a type 4 tumor and there is no cure. Well it is two years later and she is still here. She is fighting to live a normal life and refuses to give into this problem. I am telling you this for a reason. What ever problems you guys have to face take it with a grain of salt. You are the only one who knows what your are going through. You can let it beat you or you can fight it with love and compassion.

Sincerely,
dj

Hi Jon;

profound wishes for a speedy recovery from Washington in the UK. We take so much for granted nowadays and its guys like you who are out in the real front line who I admire so much for their courage in the face of adversity.

I know Jim will do his darndest to help you go through this with his mindset and beliefs and I’m sure that, with time, you will overcome these dark days and look foward to a brighter future.

Here’s my two penn’orth (UK slang for two pennies worth!)

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be ever at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rain fall softly on your fields
And until we meet again, May God hold
you in the hollow of his hand

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Jon,

I just wanted to take a few moments and thank you for all that you do and wish you a speedy recovery.

It’s times like these when everyone back home gets hits with a dose of reality and realizes just how grateful we are for you and your willingness to go and fight for our freedom.

From our family to yours we wish you a speedy recovery and all good wishes.

Take care.

Madeline :

Hi, Jim

So very sorry to hear your sad news about your son-in-law, Jon.

Regardless of one’s personal feelings on matters relating to the war in Iraq, our soldiers are enduring a difficult time, there, and often paying a high price in attempting to restore some semblance of peace and unity in the country long after the war was supposed to have been won.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family and especially Jon who may have a long road to recovery. But I hope that given the love and support that he receives from his friends and his loved ones, it won’t be long before he is well and reunited with his wife and family.

Warmest regards and all good wishes for Jon’s speedy recovery.

Madeline

Jon,

I have a cousin I hadn’t seen for about 20 years get in touch following the death of my uncle a few weeks ago. We talked about everything under the sun including his motor cycle accident (a bit under 20 years ago) that left him with a broken leg and complications that pain him to this day! What struck me was that his difficulties ended up having a really positive effect … and I hope that’s what ends up happening with you too.

The thoughts of Loraine, the kids and I are with you and hoping you get well soon.

All the best Jon.

I can’t say it nearly as well as the 300+ people who have thanked you before me, but just know that all of your efforts and sacrifice are greatly appreciated here.

Here’s wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.

Sincerely,

Mitch Fields
California

Hi Jon,

You and the other troops will be in my prayers. Thanks for all the sacrifices you’ve done!

God bless!

Mary Austin :

Jon,
Thank you for all you soldiers do for us. I deeply regret this challenge to you and your family. You are fortunate to have that wacky-doodle and loveable Jim Edwards in your corner.

In the coming weeks your mind may want to obsess over the event that caused such pain to you and your comrades, amplifying the physical pain with more emotional pain.

What I have learned is that it is impossible to NOT think about something. But what you can do is replace the thoughts with something else that will be a healing influence.

Perhaps you have a favorite prayer to recite, or a memory that fills you with love, or a song you can sing to yourself that will lift you into a state of joy. If you were Catholic, I’d say repeat the rosary; if you were a Hindu I’d suggest chanting the Guyatri.

Do you see what I mean? Whatever will bring you from the thoughts of pain and regret back to joy and gratitude. In my experience I have found this to be a huge support to healing.

I join many others in thinking of you and your comrades with joy and gratitude.

Jim, thank you so much for letting all of us know of your son-in-law’s injuries and giving us the chance to let him know we care also.

Jon, with so many people everywhere thinking about and praying for your recovery and that of your comrades, there has been an invisible link established that is as strong as fine steel, with all threads leading directly to you and those you love. Keep your heart open and your spirits up, so the link connects with you.

Love and good health to you and yours. You will be in my prayers.

Gene Hansen :

Hi Jon,

Whilst many of us have a very cynical view of the motives of politicians the world over, there is absolutely no doubt that without you and your service colleagues the world would be a much more dangerous place.

Your bravery and commitment to a better world are deeply appreciated by the normally silent majority.

Heartfelt thanks, and please get well very soon.

Gene

Hi Jon,

Get well soon. You have the support and love of many, many good people.

I served along side the US in Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia and you should feel justly proud of what you and the coalition is trying to achieve … peace.

Respect and love,

Tim :

Jon, thanks so much for your service. I wish you and your fellow soldiers a full and speedy recovery. And my deepest condolences on the loss of your friend. Stay strong.

Ed :

God bless you for your sacrifice to keep us safe. Our family is praying for your full recovery. Never forget that you are a hero!

Jon - It is with relief I heard of your survival through your perilous attack. We mourn here for your friends and their families.

Trust the universe to have reason for your survival. Be strong, flourish.

And thank you - to you, your families, and your friends for your willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice for us when the only thing we can do in repayment is to live free and care so much.

Dear Jon

There ws a poem by Kipling I received for my high school graduation that started, “If you can hold your head when all about you are losing their’s and blaming it on you…” and so it goes. Forty years later, the one line plays in my head and brings peace to my heart, as I hope it does for you.

I salute your heart and health and wish only golden moments with your family, and especially your young son. Peace to you, Jon, and thank you for your contribution to the world. Know the many silent voices and hearts that support you by the wonderful love we send you way.

Jon,

My wife and I - both Navy veterans - want you to know that you and your extended family are in our thoughts. We pray for your speedy recovery, for a successful conclusion to this conflict, and for the safe return of all of our military forces.

But we also want you to know just how much we appreciate all you have done in the service of this great country, and also how much we respect your decision to serve, knowing that you would likely be involved in this conflict. It takes a special human being to volunteer for and to endure the separations, the loneliness, and the other hardships that come with military service.

And as you face the challenge of recovery, please know there are thousands of veterans and other Americans all over the world - including those of us fortunate enough to know your father-in-law - who are pulling for you, and who KNOW that you will meet this challenge with the same strength and determination that you have met the others.

Thanks so much for all you have done - now just focus on getting better!

With great appreciation,

John “Wiz” Withers
Lieutenant Commander, U.S. Navy (Retired)

Jon,
I hope you and your fellow soldiers recover quickly. Thank you for your sacrifice we as Americans don’t take it for granted.
You make our country a safer place. My family and I appreciate
all that you do for us. We will keep you all in our prayers.

Jon,

First, “congrats” on picking such a fine father-in-law!

In all seriousness (and I *DO* like Jim), you and your colleagues have taken up the tremendous challenge that so many others have throughout our nation’s history and risen to the occasion to do what our President has deemed necessary. I deeply respect and admire your willingness to do such a difficult, dangerous, and thankless task — especially in light of what has happened to you and your comrades.

I’m making this blog post with a short but fervent prayer for a speedy recovery — along with a salute from one who has “gone before you”.

Best regards,
Tom Brownsword

P.S. — Feel free to contact me personally (Jim has my email address, as well as my permission to give it to you) if there’s anything you’d like to discuss with an “old soldier”…

Jane :

Jon

I was very sorry to learn of your horrible experience and I understand what grief your family must be going through. My brother was a Sergeant in the British Army for many years and I know we all worried everytime he was posted away from home.

However, I am a great believer that we all come to this earth to help others in whatever shape or form that takes, and that we also come to learn. Our learning may not be obvious to us at first, but we must seek to understand what lessons we are being taught.

My brother was lucky enough never to have been hurt during his days in the army, but 10 years ago he was diagnosed with MS and it grieves our family to see this once strong tough man, reduced to a wheelchair, unable to dress himself, go to the toilet on his own and suffer the pain of all the physical problems the MS has caused him.

I believe the learning for him has been to experience the other side of war and all suffering that it can bring, but he is wise enough to understand that this is his learning experience and he keeps a brave heart while he ‘waits for God’ and tries to care for his wife who also has MS.

All I can say Jon, is to try to rise above the hurt and pain, and to see the bigger picture if you can.

As a Reiki Master I will send you (and your family) distant healing to help give you the strength to understand this current experience and to be able to help others in the future from what you will have gained.

I hope this helps. In love, light, peace & harmony. Jane

Scott :

Jon,

Thank you for what you’ve been doing for our country! I know that most people don’t realize what a typical day consists of for a soldier. If they did, I believe you would receive a lot more appreciation than you do.

My son-in-law was serving in Iraq when Saddam’s statue came down. He has shared some of his experiences with me. He still has a bullet lodged in his back from his time there.

Jon, I’m amazed with and proud of the sacrifices you and other soldiers have made on our behalf, and thank you for all that you’ve done.

Please know that there are many that have you in our prayers and thoughts.

I wish you a speedy and complete recovery!

Scott

I’m wishing a speedy recovery, and sending a heartfelt thank you for being brave enough to put everything on the line and fight for our country. Hopefully all the comments will cheer you up a bit, and give you a little more strength with which to feel better.

Jon,

From one retired military member to one that has sacrificed so much for our country and your family… Thank YOU!

My nephew and one of my best friends are in Iraq now and not a day goes by that we don’t pray for their safe return.

Kathy and I will be sending our prayers your way too for a speedy recovery and for your future successes. From now on, you are an ispiration to all those that come after you and proof that good will always win in the face of oppression.

You’ve got a great family there… and new friends around the world pulling for you.

Sharon :

Hi Jim and Jon,

Thanks Jim for sharing and giving us the opportunity to express our gratitude to Jon for his service to our country. We are very fortunate to have men and women in America that put others before themself.

And Jon, we are praying for you to have a very quick and complete recovery in body, mind and spirit. I would like to share a quote from Dr Wayne Dyer’s book, “The Power of Intention” with you.

Good morning,
This is God.
I will be handling
All of your
Problems today.
I will not need
Your help, so have
A miraculous day.

My hope is that if you are feeling down or overwhelmed, think of this quote and remember, you are not alone.

Get well soon,
Sharon

Dear Jon H,

While words are weak, your actions are strong!

All the people in the should have the courage and fortitude that you, and your buddies, have shown to preserve and promote individual freedom for us all.

Although you are off the front lines now, your fight must go on. Please face it like the solier you are, with guts, determination, bravery and hope; knowing every American is behind you with their prayers and gratitude.

Bless you and carry on being the best you can be.

Thankful for your service,
The Pepperman Family

Jim,

Please pass these comments to your son-in-law.

My family and I truly appreciate you and your other service members sacrifices. I’m saddened to hear you lost a team member and were injured in Iraq.

I’m praying for your quick recovery and for your other team members as well.

I had a close relative shot in Vietnam. Fortunately he recovered. So I have a little insight into what you and your family are going through, although I would not claim to appreciate fully the pain you’re experiencing.

Please be assured the people I know feel you and the rest of the soldiers in our military are doing something very important to the future safety of our families and our country.

Thank you for your service and get well as soon.

Just a quick word to let you, your family, and your son-in-law know that you are all in our prayers. We have a friend who just returned from a tour in Iraq, so we know how it is to live on needles & pins hoping your loved ones will return safely. I will keep you all in my thoughts and will hold this young man up in my prayers. God Bless America….
and her brave fighting men & women!

Good luck. The military medical system is one of the best around. I know from personal experience.

Hi Jon

Hope you are soon feeling better and rest assured that the great majority of us living in the UK see no difference between US and UK Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
You are just brave boys and girls doing a very difficult job to help make us all safer in our daily lives.

I, myself, am waiting for a heart and double lung transplant here in the UK and appreciate it is guy’s like you and your friends that continue to make things like that happen for me because of your dedication to making our world free and safe.

Jon, my job from day to day is to make the world a more beautiful place, and whether other people’s jobs are to make the world a more efficient, a more educated, a more tolerant or just a cleaner place, yours is the most important - to make the world a SAFER place. And ironically, you do that by putting yourself in danger.

THANK YOU from Robin Hood country! (Nottingham, England)

Hey Jon H.

As a Navy Retiree, I can tell you from experience that the hospital at Walter Reed is fantastic. Maybe not the hospital itself… but there are some “near miracle workers” there who are dedicated to making you well and getting your parts working as good as new… as fast as possible.

Hopefully you’ll make a SWIFT recovery… but if you get stuck there for a while, and would like to get out for a breath of fresh air, I just live an hour away and would be proud to drop by and take you out for pizza, dinner or whatever. Just hit reply to my email and let me know.

Your father-in-law has been helpful to me without ever knowing it and I appreciate that… and I definitely appreciate YOUR service.

Get well fast and remember my offer!

Dear Jon H,

Thank you for your service and your sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you recover from your injuries. I have requested, and you will be on our continuing prayer list at my church, St. Martin’s Episcopal Church in Houston. (It is the church home of Former President George Bush.) I live just down the block from the church, and can hear the bells chime on the hour. I plan to use the reminder of the church bells at noon to pray for you. I’m grateful that you survived the attack and that you can be with your wife and child as you recover. I wish you a full, speedy recovery - and know that there will be a lot of people in Houston and all over the country praying for you and ‘pulling for you’.

I just want to say thank you, it’s because of soldiers like you that we have the fortune to live in a “Free Country”. Doug Golinski :

Hi Jon,
I can’t thank you enough for your service to our
country. You are a true Great American Hero. Get
well soon.

Thank you Doug

Jon,

Thank you for serving us and our country by your presence and your efforts in an area of the world that is not only alien but far from home both physically and psychologically. My daughter was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in 1988, so I know it well. I had nothing but respect for the staff during the 14 years it was our family’s sole medical care facility. I pray that they serve you as well as you have served all of us.

As a former member of the US Army (1974-77), I served with a lot of people (and married a soldier) from the Viet Nam era. What we learned as a result of that episode in our country’s history has taught us some important lessons. Most importantly, I think, is that regardless of anyone’s political or philosophical views about war, the fact remains that people like YOU put their lives on the line every day — for us and for the people you were sent to defend and to help stabilize their society.

So saying “thank you” just doesn’t seem adequate, but my thanks come from my heart. I am praying for you, that no matter what physical outcome you have from your injuries, that you will keep a positive outlook as much as possible.

It’s the injuries we can’t see, however, that you must do all you can to heal from. Use every military and VA option available to you to get and keep your head straight, not only for your family and friends, but for yourself. If you can get past the “why me?” questions, especially because you survived when others didn’t, take comfort in this quote from Watchman Nee, regardless of your present spirituality:

“If God leads you to take the way that you know, it will not benefit you as much as if He leads you to take a way you do NOT know. This forces you to have hundreds and thousands of conversations with Him, resulting in a journey that will be an everlasting memorial between you and Him.”

Actually, we ALL need to take the path we don’t know when we come to that proverbial fork in the road. We spend so much of our lives doing things the same way we always have and wondering why nothing changes. As Dr. Phil likes to ask, “How’s that workin’ for ya’?”

When you get past this initial time of conflicting emotions, keep working toward a place of peace within yourself. In that place you will stop asking, “Why me?” and instead ask, “What have I learned from this, and how can what has happened be turned to good not only for me but for others?” The sooner you can get to this point, the sooner that new focus will help you to heal.

I can’t even begin to imagine the challenges you’re facing, except intellectually. I don’t know on a visceral level how I would react in similar circumstances.

But for a military man who’s breathed more sand than most landlocked people have ever seen, who’s had DI’s in his face, who’s had to eat field rations when a Big Mac supersized with fries would make a grown man weep, who’s endured the sound of mortar shells and car bombs and gunfire, who’s known loneliness and homesickness on the deepest possible level, who’s lost friends, who’s seen more suffering than most people do in a lifetime, who’s faced death square in the eye and come away alive — for THIS man, no challenge can’t be overcome because you ALREADY have persevered. There is nothing you can’t do now, especially with the love and support of family and friends.

Dig deep inside, Jon! Keep digging until you find the joy again, no matter how long it takes. It will happen sooner than you think.

I send you my best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery of body soul and spirit. And I look forward to hearing how everything turns out, what direction you decide to take, and the good that definitely will come of this, sooner or later. I’m praying for sooner.

Deb Gallardo

Psalm 91
1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, [and] from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth [shall be thy] shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; [nor] for the arrow [that] flieth by day;
6 [Nor] for the pestilence [that] walketh in darkness; [nor] for the destruction [that] wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; [but] it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
9 Because thou hast made the LORD, [which is] my refuge, [even] the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.
12 They shall bear thee up in [their] hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.
14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.
15 He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I [will be] with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
16 With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

Both of my son’s are Air Force. In the last 16 years they have been overseas many times. My Lord God Almighty watches over them and protects them. I pray that you will put your trust in God and thank Him for bringing you out and know that He has a plan for you.

Thank you, Jon, for all of your sacrifices as well as those of your comrades. I’m not sure how one puts that kind of deep gratitude into words, but I’m hoping that you realize what absolute heroes you all are. David Smales :

Hello Jim / John H

I understand that injury or death is “part and parcel” of being a soldier of a particular country and it’s Armed Forces.

This however, has little recompense for the remaining family of the “Soldier”.

We all need to appreciate that young men and women are prepared to give up their lives, in order to secure the future and freedom of their descendants.

To this end,
I would like to applaud Jon H for choosing to protect all of our rights as individuals, by fighting for what is right.

best regards

David S SMALES

Susan :

Hola PFC Jon H.

I wanted to write and send you all my best wishes for your recovery and that of your friends. I was profoundly sorry to hear about your injuries and the loss of one of your friends. You are all very brave to put yourself in harms way not only for your own country but also for the rest of us out here wanting a free and peaceful world.

I am glad to hear that you are on your way home and back to your family, I bet they can’t wait to see you, you must have their smiling faces around you by now.

Life takes a tremendous turn, a real jolt after something like this doesn’t it - and I hope that you will have all the time you need to both physically and mentally adapt to the new direction you go in. I don’t want to get all pushy right after telling you you should take time… but there is a guy I know who knows a heck of a lot about making great web sites and writing e-books ! Jim something or other…, sorry, sometimes there is strength in humour…

From a small Spanish island just off the northern African coast and I wanted to tell you, your family and your team members that you are all in my thoughts and prayers, especially now and over the coming weeks.

God bless you
Susan
p.s. Hola Jim, you don’t know me but thank you for helping me find my new direction.

Hi Jon,

Thank you and your comrades for your sacrifices for me and my family. As a veteran myself I know the feeling of loss when a buddy is killed. Thankfully most people will never have to go through that.

I wanted to keep this short…My prayers go out to all of you and your family’s to help you make it through this tough battle.

Thank you for being a HERO!!!!

Hi Jon,
We think of the soldiers all the time and pray for their safe return. May God bless the soldiers that were with you and that you recover real soon.

As a USAF vet (’85 - ‘90), I can’t thank you enough Jon for the effort and sacrifice that you, and the many men and women like you, have given and continue to give.

My family’s best wishes and prayers for you and your family, and I hope the road to recovery will be a speedy one for you all.

Sincerely,

Michael

Rildo Oliveira :

Jon, I hope You soon get better! And I really hope there will come a time when people will not suffer anymore under such injuries caused by the stupidity of the war, which take lifes of so many people, us-persons, iraqis and others. And all this just in name of what? Not peace!

I hope You get healthy! Pain is to be felt for those who died or have been injured, be they iraqis or not.

Wish You all the best! It means: a World in peace, without invasions, blindness and war.

Rildo Oliveira

Ambrose Avery :

Dear Jon,

I just wanted to send you a note to let you know that your service is NOT taken for granted. If it weren’t for people like you, people like me wouldn’t be able to enjoy the freedoms that come with Democracy.

I wish you and yours a speedy recovery, and you will be remembered in my prayers. Please give my sincerest condolences also to your fallen comrade’s family.

Love,
Ambrose

Jon.

I don’t know how gung-ho you are but if you need a lift from someone who has ridden the emotion rollercoaster of a soldier in war … he was in Falujah in Nov ‘04 … get to know David Bellavia.

I saw him this weekend on CSPAN-2 … he’s a VERY powerful and passionate speaker … co-authored a book called “House to House : An Epic Memoir of War.” I haven’t read it, but I will. I suspect he might help make you feel your service … and your sacrifice were worth it.

As for your injury … just take your time getting better. You have your whole life ahead of you. Seriously! Don’t be uptight. Be determined just to live life right no matter how long this will take.

Best wishes to you and your family.

Hello Jon, My name is Cash Neve, my friends call me Big Daddy Cash. I just heard about your present situation and I’m glad you are a survivor. Hey Jon,

Here in the U.K. we get a lot of coverage in respect of the casualties suffered by our troops, to the stage that people get somewhat immunised to the reallities of the impact that it has on individuals and their families I hope you make a speedy recovery and my thoughts are with you and your family at this time.

Jon
A friend of mine was involved in a serious accident and was told he would never walk again — he told the doctor he would be the MVP in his rugby team the following year and his doctor just shrugged his shoulders

He affirmed his goals regularly, busted his butt and later was named MVP - others with less serious injuries are still not walking

You have made a terrific sacrifice for your country and it is greatly appreciated

I encourage you to dream big, leverage the support of your friends, family and professionals and make the best possible recovery

Best of luck

I believe that God has GREAT things for you. He has a hope and a future for you and your family. This injury is going to be your stepping stone to greater things.

Jay & Carol Bach :

Hello Joh H. The internet has brought us closer together and we are so terribly sorry to hear of your misfotune. It is our hope that you have a speedy recovery. We want to pass along our condolences to you and ‘family’(Which includes the other members of the unit that were truly part of his family and his natural family” for your fallen fellow soldier. Fortunately we have never had to undergo such horrible feelings, however, we have a son who is career US Coast Guard and his wife who is career Navy. We were scared stiff for him when the Coast Guard was involved in that mess over there during the first skirmish during the early 90’s and then later for both my son and daughter-in-law who were involved with both, she in the Afganastan mess and he now on patrol working every day patrolling the coasts of America. We have them in our thoughts all the time, as we are sure that you are in your parents thoughts all the time. We can’t do much, even as parents but pray and lend support wherever and whenever possible. We understand, as best we can, what it takes for you guys and girls to be doing what you are doing and we are eternally grateful for your sacrifices in protecting this country. Sometimes when we are sitting at home and they talk about these terrible things we find tears in our eyes. We remember how often we have had special holidays when not only do they visit us, but find some of their military friends staying with us, as well. One Christmas we had three marines two coasties and a couple of navy sleeping all over our house, so we know about the military and how they take care of each other. You are always in our prayers. All of you.
May God, in his infinite wisdom, grant you peace and help heal the sorrows that come from injuries and deaths that have followed the terrible confrontations.

Earl :

Hi Jon,

I want you to know how profoundly grateful I am for you and the thousands of other men and women in the military who defend our country. All of us owe you a debt of honor for your commitment and sacrifice.

I also want you to know that I will be praying for you and your family during your time of recovery. I do not know your faith background, but as a follower of Jesus Christ, I will be praying that the God and Father of Jesus Christ will surround you with His love — a love that heals both body and spirit.

I pray that you will discover a truth that I learned a long time ago (I am 72 years old); that is, God can take the bad things that happen to us and transform them into good. It was often difficult for me to believe this when I was in the middle of agonizing events, but after passing through them, I could see how God used them to make me a better person.

Take hope in knowing that thousands of people like me honor you for your sacrifice. I shall look forward with eager anticipation for news of your recovery. Be sure to remind Jim to provide us with timely updates on your progress.

Gratefully yours,

Earl

Dear Jon,

Thank you so much for your service to our country. Your sacrifice humbles me. Know that you are in my, and my family’s, thoughts and prayers every day, as are all of the American military men and women, like yourself, who sacrifice daily for us all.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. A dear friend had a similar situation, and although the road to recovery was challenging, he is living a happy, healthy life now, and I wish that to you.

Please know that your bravery and courage is respected and appreciated. May your family and loved ones, and your beautiful son Johnny give you the strength and love to heal in all ways. It can be done! You can do it! Please feel free to contact me for inspiration from my friend’s story any time.

With sincerest respect and admiration,

Hi Jim,

My heart goes out to you and your family as you deal with this brush with death. I too felt compelled to write a column when my son was about to die last October, and again after he died in November. So I know how you must have agonized over writing about it.

My son wasn’t in a war. But when we lose or nearly lose a loved one, we remember our mortality and that we must celebrate life as best we can and for as long as we can.
Love and blessings,
Neill

Jon,

Hang in there. Our prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery so you can quickly return home to your family. Be strong - there are many whose thoughts and support are with you.

Blessings, Kevin

Doug :

Hi Jon,

I just want to thank you first of all for your service, and wish you a speedy recovery. I know it’s a hard job and somebody has to do it, but the troops in Iraq are doing a great job and need to hear it every single day.
Although I was not in the service myself, I have a son who will be in Iraq soon with the USMC and I will be thinking every day of his safety. While I’m praying for him, I will of course throw in a prayer for all the troops over there and in Afghanistan as well. May God be with you and protect you.

Hey Jon,

Sorry to hear about your injuries and the death of your friends. You got to be a brave person. I think of you guys everyday. It’s got to be tough and I appreciate what you are doing for us everyday. Hang in there. You are on my prayer list.

Mary :

Jon - Jim has a photo posted on his site of you with an
absolutely BEAUTIFUL baby on your lap. And the love beaming on your face tells me this is your child. Must also be the grandbaby that Jim is so head over heels in love with!
Children and grandchildren are our most precious possessions. They are what gives us strength and hope and comnfort. Our loved ones are who we do everything for in our lives. Love of family and love of country.
I feel that you have not heard it enough, but you are loved by many who have not met you. You are loved because Jim loves you, and his caring extends to his online “family”.
You are loved becsue you cared enough to go away from your home, your family and your comfort zone, to perfrom your duty - out of love for you family and country.
Not a day goes by that my husband Roger and I do not think about, care about and pray for the men and women who are giving so much to our country - and to a country whose people they did not know until they arrived there.
The good people in other countries also are appreciative of your efforts.
Our prayers go out to you and your family, and will continue to do so. We look forward to good news from Jim regarding your recovery.

Dear Jon,

As you look to the future, however clouded at this moment by thoughts of the recent past, remember that you and your buddies are protected by God’s Love and Healing Grace and the collective prayers offered to the Lord on your behalf.

As you have no doubt seen many times before Friday’s tragedy, your fallen comrade, and all of them, now know the full protection of God’s eternal armor.

As your sacrifices are never forgotten or taken for granted by a world who appreciates your service to freedom, may you remember and uncover levels of peace for your present and future.

As you now begin to repair your body, allow the depths of your soul to heal your spirit and your mind to direct what in your heart you know as truth.

As God continues His watch over you, find strength in your family, friends, and those who love you anonymously, for we are here for you as well.

Love Always,
Cynthia

Dearest Beloved Jon and family,
Thank you, thank you, thank you for all you’ve done. I will never know the extent of your sacrifice for our country. I do know that you, Jon, are safe at home and deeply loved by many.

I trust that God, the Angels, and your loved ones will assist in the healing process with you and my thoughts are for a full and speedy recovery for you.

Please know that I appreciate you and your family. Thank you.

Many Blessings,
Barbara

Jon,

Unfortunately the concept of self-sacrifice is lost on the majority of Americans today. And unless they themselves are serving in the Armed Forces or have a close relative serving, most will never understand the personal sacrifices made not only by the soldiers, but the families of the soldiers.

My family and I understand and extend to you, our personal gratitude for you raising your hand to volunteer to serve. We are also sending healing energy to you. Similar to the Tonglin practice mentioned in another post to you, we are sending Reiki energy.

No matter what happens from today forward, always focus on what can be.

Make sure Jim brings you a copy of “5 Steps to Getting Anything You Want” to help you during your recovery and rehabilitation…perhaps even some personal coaching…and much, much more!

Good luck and stay positive.

Jon,
May the grace of God be with you as you recover.

You and your entire family are in my prayers - and will be until you are fully well.

Thank you for your service for our country - blessings upon blessings be on you!

Dear Jon,

My heart aches for your loss and your fellow soldiers. Your bravery and sacrifice is of the highest order. Your honor is exemplary. I remember the Vietnam War for I am of that generation, and my father who is a doctor counseling and working with the young soldiers who can back - helping them rebuild their lives and heal with hope for their future. You will heal and please never under estimate what you have given, what you will give, and honor yourself.

Faith, Hope and Love

Jon,

By the grace of God you survived a terrible
experience. I wish you a fast and speedy
recovery.

Not many countries in the world have seen
first hand the courage and commitment given
beyond the call of duty by so many people
trying to do a job they believe in, and doing
their best every day to make a difference.

Believe me when I say there are people in the
world who greatly appreciate what you and
your team have been doing for us all.

My very best wishes to you and yours.

Jon,

I hope you can feel all the love, prayers and good wishes for a speedy recovery, along with condolences for the loss of your brother-in-arms that are being sent to you and your fellow soldiers through this website.
My son-in-law also served in Iraq and I know from our family’s experience how hard it is for both you and your family to be seperated for such a long time under such trying circumstances.
There is a saying that goes something to the effect that, “God never gives us more to bear then He knows we can carry.” Take comfort
