Passion in Jim’s Pajamas! (Day 5 – 30 Day Video Challenge)

Gurus talk about making money in their pajamas… so why no me too!

Here’s a key to creating an online business that lasts (or any other type of business). Without this, your efforts are limp and won’t stand the test of time… and they may just be the reason why you don’t have the momentum you want in the business you operate right now.

Thanks, Jim. I think the key goes deeper than just passion for a subject, too. I think it involves passion for people. You mentioned that you and your buddies are still around because you all had a passion for helping people.

I think that passion for people is what kept you going and growing. I know that the more I focus what I’m doing on the idea of helping people, the more passion I have for my niche. If it was just the subject matter of the niche itself… plfbltt! Who cares? (That plfbltt was a raspberries, BTW, not some exotic obscenity.)

I find it ironic that so many new business owners start their businesses because they want to get away from the knuckleheads that they work with and make money in a way where they don’t have anyone bothering them. But the only way we find success in business is by embracing an ever wider variety of people — and meeting their needs.

Thanks for this Jim! It was a good reminder for a little mantra I use on myself whenever I need some extra juice to push outside my comfort zone…”Your power is in your passion.”

BTW, cute jammies. :-D

Hi Jim,

Thanks for doing this video and of course I am working toward that first product that I mentioned yesterday.

I need to get a handle on Camtasia but it’s all part of the fun and learning process.

So today I have put together a process map for the way in which my product helps people and they can follow the process map and go from A-Z to get an end result. (A REAL MEASURABLE RESULT)

Really enjoying these motivational videos and looking forward to some more skills based ones later in the challenge.

All the best

Richard

And if you don’t like doing it… don’t do it!

Life is too short to do something you’re not passionate about.

I know we all have to pay the bills and do crap we don’t like at various times in our lives, but we are responsible if we never do anything else (even 5 minutes a day) to move AWAY from the crap and over to our passion. If we don’t do that, no matter what the circumstances in our lives, then it’s our fault if we’re not living our passion!

(Glad you like the jammies… I have Poker, camo, fire trucks, red, moo cow and more – it’s an eclectic collection)

Yep, couldn’t agree more! In fact, that’s exactly why I have never understood why the vast majority of people seem to work at jobs that they hate / make them unhappy for most of their lives! Why in the world would one choose to stay at a job they hate?? (Especially in this country?) The only exception I can think of is if you have to temporarily do something you don’t like short term because it will be a stepping stone to get you to where you want to be in the long term.

Thanks for sharing your passion Jim…even when it comes to your Saturday morning wardrobe!

Well said :D

“…even when it comes to your Saturday morning wardrobe!

Hmmm… methinks I see a subtle fashion commentary here ;)

Just caught up…

Passion’s a critical driving force, but it can also be a stumbling block because passion can put blinders on.

How do you know if the blinders are on?

-Bogged down in details
-Too much creative thinking
-Not the right kind of action (or none at all).

To reboot, it helps to split knowledge from passion and focus on the audience and do one thing. That way taking action becomes a habit. (Kind of like the old Fixx song, “One thing leads to another.”)

But it can be tough to figure out how to do this.

Your videos offer a way to take a quick step back so you can move forward with focused passionate action:

1. After giving yourself permission to succeed, help as many people as you can, ideally by taking action on your passion. (Day 2 and Day 5)

2. “If you could do anything, what would you do?” This makes sure you follow your passion. (Day 5)

3. Get in the habit of doing it every day. (Day 5)

4. You Can Do It! I’m Gonna Do It! (Insert Day 2 mantra as needed)

5. Combining “Secret to Success” steps (Day 4):
a. Understand the lifestyle you want. Decide what you want.
b. Do something–WORK–every day to reach it (See step 3)
c. Ideas and implementation–longer it takes, less likely to succeed (Reality Check)
d. Find holes in niche and produce products that solve problem.
e. To identify subniche, buy competitor’s product not to copy but complement.

6. Creative Thinking (Day 3 plus Intro Video Survey)
Focus on your audience: Given 5-10 minutes, what can you say in clear, relevant, easy-to-follow, how-to steps that’s interesting content without fluff or hype?

7. Create videos with purpose and call to action using the appropriate video type (Day 1).

Thanks Jim.

Thanks, Jim.

At first I typed a question to you…

“What do you do if passion gets in the way?”

Then I remembered in Day 1 you said the easiest way to be a talking head is to answer questions, and I realized I could answer my own question using what you shared in the videos.

So I gave it a shot.

Those 7 steps are what I got out of your videos: mindset/goal tips (the first four steps) and keys to successful action (the last three steps.) So thank you for sharing!

Excellent! It’s amazing how you can stimulate your own creativity by seeing what others are doing and using it to push your own buttons… well done!
