This is definitely real, hype sells with the pressure. Buyer beware!
Exactly!
Hi Jim
I pretty much had this figured out awhile ago. But this video sent it home in my brain BIG TIME!
Thanks, pete
Good!
Far from fictional….but I guess you knew that..lol
OMG,every “guru” in my industry does this and I obviously am not alone…seems all internet marketing business do this more than offline business. I often compare my offline business when doing marketing online and it confuses the heck out of me since alot of the online tactics would never, ever make sense for offline businesses..hope you folow me here..:)
Thank YOU again for great info/video!
Thank you
Wow. NIcely done. I makes me happy that I’ve moved away from this type of marketing.
And I certainly have been sucked in by all those methods.
Woof!
We all have been sucked in!
Jim -
This is a “hit home” video. Your “fictional portrayal” is soooo true as they have gotten me with these tactics and triggers.
I however believe there is still a tremendous onus on our part to take action on the product once it is in our possession.
The deal (or the truth whether we want to believe it or not) is that every product that I purchased (you purchased) and will continue to purchase (after asking myself the question: Does my business or do I really need this RIGHT NOW?) works!!!!
The products and the methods work, however the bigger question is, does the purchaser put the work in behind it to get the results that are desired? Hmmmmmm!
Don’t mean to offend anyone, it is just my personal experience.
So do we have the GUTS to do the work and stop blaming the others and take full responsibility for our future, I do and I hope all of you do as well?
I just wish the old days of psychological selling were just the simple tactic of walking through K-Mart and the “Blue-Light” would go off and you would run to aisle to get the special.
Great video Jim and keep them coming.
Derek
Self-responsibility is VERY important… I agree 110%
Jim
The very fact that these people think of their customers and followers as a “herd” speaks volumes. I’m offended by marketers who have no respect for me and think of me as an animal!
Having learned from long (and expensive) experience, I now follow only people like Jim, who treat me like a valued member of a community, and who credit me with enough intelligence to buy their products when I need them and not within the next ten seconds.
Right on, Jim!
Helen
Thanks Helen… and what makes it nice is that I do feel like I know you and it makes what I do more rewarding.
Your right on with this one Jim. I would just about guess everyone doing online has been taken in by this pitch more than once or twice and I will say I have. Thanks for putting this message out to remind me and others.
Take care
Bart R
Jim,
I believe there is alot of truth what was being said here. Most of the Guru’s just build their lists and then bombard you with every JV under the sun.
-Steve
Agreed… and I find it very annoying!
This video is a blessing to me. It rekindles my hope that not all online marketers are sociopathic…some actually do have open hearts.
thanx jim
elizabeth
Break out the thesaurus folks… thanks, Elizabeth
Jim, I enjoyed the information on the video. Not sure if the “fake” Mr. X was necessary, but an interesting twist. This video was a great follow up on your one about the gurus and how they are ripping the public off (i.e. Stompernet and others). The latest craze seems to be Andy Jenkins and his new “Video Boss”. Ed Dale (Market Samurai and 30 Day Challenge fame) sent me an email promoting it (along with many other “internet marketers”) and I wrote back to Ed about how I was disappointed that he was falling in with all the other GRQG’s (Get Rich Quick Guru). I get tons of emails from all these guys. i thought of taking myslef off of their lists, but I stay on there so I can get the freebies they give away. I NEVER buy anything from them. (I did buy Market Samurai after testing all of the others in the same genre) keep up the good work. Thanks.
Glad you liked it… I wanted to do something different
Well everyone is convinced it is a jungle out there and they are right. Thanks for making it all very clear. What I had in mind to say was already said by Helen Wilkie. She took the words right out of my mouth. And off topic, I want to say that your videos are wonderful. I especially liked the one with you as a dancing elf.
Hi Betty,
I’ll make sure to dance for you again some time
Jimbo-
Thank you for the video! I really hope some of the “gurus” see this video post.
Most of the time people are not really people. They become “Sheeple”. What I mean is they will not truly think for themselves. Instead, they usually just follow the flock and hope for the best.
These sheeple will follow just about any Shepherd that appears to them. They will follow one right after another and then complain. What amazes me is how many different gurus’ these folks buy from until they realize the magic bullet to success is what Napoleon Hill described as “Burning Desire”.
I think when a sheeple turns into a person is at the point of realizing and taking action on his burning desire. Until then he is a sheeple wondering around and being taking advantage of by the techniques you revealed in this video.
Whats interesting to me is that burning desire is not only what turns a sheeple into a person, but it’s what turns a person into a leader. (they actually think on their own and are not so vulnerable to guru tricks).
Again, I hope that gurus will see this video and will follow your lead. Thank you Jimbo for being one of the “real deal” leaders out there!!!
~Gary Hurter
Gary,
Well said!
I believe that clarity of purpose in your life is transformational… on so many levels.
Right on brother!
Jim
You hit the nail on the head. These clowns all swim in the same cesspool and promote each others launches with their garbage.
Now that is a colorful metaphor… I’m gonna STEAL THAT!
Nice video Jim!
Question for ya:
So what do you think about Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula and also Frank Kern’s Mass Control? Their strategies are basically built around what you depicted in your video.
Do you think those techniques are unethical?
Thanks,
Tom
I think any tool can be used for good or bad… and that’s all I’m going to say on that.
Jim
As usual Jim you have taken another step toward your Hollywood career…and proven also that humor and satire (is that the right word) helps drive the points across. You “make” everyone watch til the end because you keep us engaged. So many lessons in one video.
I personally get more aggravated at the affiliates! They are the herd to me more than us being their herds. I get really p.o.’ed when I see all these emails day after day. Makes me go and unsubscribe from all of them immediately and forever. But they are like termites and seem to return as soon as the chemical spray wears off.
Thanks for being you, Jim.
Terrie
Terrie,
Thank you for being you… you make a REAL difference in the world and you’re my hero
Jim
Oh so true…
I have spent thousands upon thousands of dollars from many of these so called “gurus” and are still waiting to make the first dime.
Unfortunately, not all are the same. There are up front marketers, trying to sell good products that actually do deliver on their word, like Jim, Mike Koenigs and others. And the truth is you have to market whatever you do. Without it, you wouldn’t know about any product…good or bad.
And then there are the true “Mar-ka-teers” that cruise the warm tropical waters of the internet in search of slow moving unsuspecting newbies, trying to find a way of making a different type of living or some very much needed additional income.
All I can say is look at what they offer. Does it make sense? Have others, as in others new to selling on the internet, gotten a good result from their products? Research before you get all emotional about it.
And if they tell you that you gotta buy today…it’s today or never, “there are only 10 electronic versions left in the universe”… well, maybe you shouldn’t. Just wait and as Jim says, look for a product that will be there when you need it.
Mark,
Well said!
Everyone has to sell and market… but you can choose how to do it, and that makes the difference.
Jim
I myself, have never fallen for these so called “selling techniques” that theses people use. I find it hard to believe that a lot of people actually do!
I don’t do the lottery either because i know that it’s just NOT real. The odds and probability is screaming at you saying, NO-WAY.
It just isn’t going to happpen and it’s the same with most of this type of email. It makes money for them, NOT you and me.
If you are falling for this type of stuff then you really need to re-evauate your thinking and take a break from computers and the Internet. What you should be getting in your inbox is regular emails from honest and trusted people who are teaching you the actual processes of Internet marketing to sell your product or service. That takes time and commitment.
Can i recommend one of those good guys?
http://www.chrisfarrellmembership.com/public/main.cfm
A combination of information, inspiration and motivation.
This is just one of my many secret weapons and i feel lucky to have discovered him, along with the likes of Jim Edwards!
…AND NO, I DO NOT GET ANYTHING FOR MENTIONING THIS GUY!!!
I just want people to know what they have to do to start being successful and get thier heads out of the clouds.
I’m glad you have it under control and have found a good mentor Michael… good for you!
Jim
Your video validates my belief (and my hope) that ethical business practices are just as important online as they are offline. Being pretty new at internet marketing, I was beginning to worry that I could never make it if I didn’t join the guru “herd” and start using hype and false pressure and plain BS to promote myself and my products. What a relief to now know that I should continue as my instinct has directed. Thanks, Jim!
Ethics apply in any area of life… just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
Jim
Thanks Jim,
Wow, that was so real to life. I don’t think you could have made the point so clear without the fake interview. It really put things in perspective. Good job.
Ray
Ray… thanks
Soooo then, the next question is: what techniques and strategies
does Jim and all you guys use to drive traffic that the gurus DON”T
teach? Doubt if anyone can answer that one.
Tim,
Is this like a challenge?
There are NO magic answers for traffic (despite what people tell you).
Buy
Borrow
Build
The only 3 ways to get traffic.
Jim
Ahhhh Jimmy Boy…
Nietzsche once said, “The masses are asses.” He was (and still is) 100% correct. And this is why SMART marketers, politicians, business owners, motivational speakers, big-time MLM players, etc. literally EXPLOIT this aspect of human nature.
Why…because it’s easy! Especially nowadays where everybody is looking for the overnight fortune, instant six-pack abs, or the love of their life to just fall into their lap. And when you couple that instant gratification/entitlement mentality with the fact that people these days are dumber than other previous generations (just quiz any high school student, college student, or 20-something year old and you will see just what I mean) it’s easy pickings.
And while sheeple today may be more skeptical on the surface, deep down…their emotional hot buttons remain – waiting…BEGGING…to be pushed. You know this, I know this, and those other smart marketing people know this too. THAT is why the “little guy” continues to struggle and the “big boys” in any industry pull their same tricks over and over again.
And if one of those “in-the-know” messes up…all they have to do is wait a few weeks and people will forget all about it. Politicians know this especially well.
And then…they just get right back to business. Or worst case scenario – just start a new LLC or corporation, operate under a pseudonym, build a new opt-in list or transfer the old one over, and shear more herds of sheeple. It’s just THAT easy.
As long as human nature remains unchanged, MY business strategies will remain unchanged. And let me tell you – business is better than ever despite what all the bobble-heads on t.v. tell you about the “Baaaaaaaaaadd Economy.”
When it is all said and done, those who know human psychology and how to covertly persuade people will never want for anything…money…sex…power…prestige…it’s all there for the taking – you just have to have the balls to go out and stake YOUR claim. And if a guy like me could do it – with the proper training and mentoring, ANYBODY can do it.
In closing, I have to say Jim – I do love your stuff. You are one of the more ethical marketers that actually provides solid, useable content. Keep up the great work and fighting the good fight…
-CD
Charlie,
Dude… easy on the cynicism brother
Hey, understanding human nature and exploiting it are two different things.
This is a really cool topic that can’t be debated adequately on a blog.
I would say that the distinction is manipulation VS persuasion.
Both of which are matters of degree and personal definition… so it’s a no-win argument, just a personal choice as to which is which.
Jim
PS – very good post, thank you for that
Hello Charlie,
There are actually “political pundits” that do remember what politicans have spewed out and do remind the “great unwashed masses”, like myself what has been said/done before. I think Mr. Edwards may be stepping into that role as well, for the topic on the table today.
regards to you.
Wow…this is the Real Deal. I like the way you staged this video. You’re giving us a great model of viral marketing.
I hope so… that is part of the teaching process for this 30Day challenge.
Wow Jim Awesome Video! I first learned about you from a webinar that daegan smith put on and I knew that you were a good guy because of how you presented yourself on the call. I noticed that you didn’t try to do any of that crazy sense of urgancy crap or over hype your product, So I joined your list and I really happy about that decision. Also, one thing I don’t understand is how do these guys sleep at night. One day we all will be judge for our action on earth and it seems that most people don’t see this. Very sad. Great Post
Ralpheal (pay it forward) Jackson
To The TOP!!!
Thank you!
Spot on and full of delicious accurateness!! Again I am SO glad that SOMEONE is finally calling em out.
And I am also so inspired by your challenge. You’re offering a real time live example of how doing a post every 30 days really does connect you with “your people.”
You Rock. Thanks for “keeping it real”
Karen… thanks
WOW Jim…..this is the best video of your series so far! I think it is more real than fiction!! I think you have just revealed…”the man behind the curtain” like in the Wizard of Oz. Just like Dorthy, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion and Scarecrow, most people who are open to buying online marketing products are looking for hope. They are looking for a legitimate way to make money online because they are already dealing with “pshycological pressure”. Pressure from their creditors, spouse, kids, fear of failure, etc. I also understand that the basic essential in selling is to expose those pressure points, offer a real solution and move someone to action, or they risk not solving their problem.
I coach and train business owners in sales and marketing, but it comes down to sincerely caring about the party you are offering a solution to. This video was sobering, because I have sensed the “shark in the water” feeding frenzy mentality of those IM’s who prey on desperate people instead of offering a realistic, do-able solution or money making opportunities. We should appeal to folks who just may be intelligent enough to make a decision to purchase because your product is truly the best solution for them…. Period!!! People buy for their own reasons….not ours! If we need manipulate or create fear or confusion to take someones money before they come to their senses, that is more like witchcraft than selling!!
Keep it up Jim!!! You may hack off a few “Guru’s”, but only because you are exposing the greed behind their self proclaimed “success”. Clear the way for the sincere professionals who truly want to help others, who have something of real value to offer and care about the people in their prospecting campaigns. If we can’t make money do it that way, than we should do something else!
Blessings!
Fitz
Thanks Fitz… I like the way you think!
What a great video, Jim! I have really enjoyed each video that you have done for your 30 Day Challenge – the content and presentation are terrific.
This video was so true. I am so glad I didn’t have $2,000.00 to spend every few days because, several times I felt I needed Mr. X’s product. Then a few days later I realized that I didn’t really need Mr. X’s product or want it. I stopped opening a lot of email so I haven’t seen Mr. X for awhile but, you painted a good clear picture of him.
Mr. X used to be called “Snake Oil Salesman” and got run out of town tarred, feathered and on a rail!
Great video, and so true! Oh sorry, just fiction
Jim, in the future will you have a video link for iphone users? iphones can’t do flash.
Anyway smart phones are where the wave is going and I find I’m surfing and doing more with my phone than ever before.
Regards, your very distant relative living in Guatemala!
AT some point, yes… but it’s gonna by a while… (or maybe not a while if people pipe in and say they really want it…. I’m open!)
Deliciously slimy – like a confession from an inmate in the Big House. Who among us hasn’t fallen prey to the tactics used by Guru X? These tactics are why I delete 97% of the emails that land in my box, and why I unsubscribe from most of them.
You, on the other hand, always give value and in a refreshingly truthful and entertaining way. And for that, I thank you.
Hi Nancy,
Thanks
Jim
I believed every word of this and regard it as a true picture of the hype merchants as they now operate.
I’d love to put a copy of this video on my Newbies blog Jim – it is a superb warning for them to heed.
You can grab the YouTube code here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PxnnD6ujqdE
and put it anywhere you like!
Hope that helps
Jim
Hey Jimmy,
That was a GREAT video. I’ve followed you for several yrs now and really appreciate your story, your no non-sense approach and general attitude.
The online world is so &%@# different than the offline world. For the average trusting sort like myself, you can really spend A LOT of money quickly for programs/shiny objects that you just HAVE TO have to make “quit your day job” money.
I’ve been on every major guru/guru wanna-be’s list at some point and know what it’s like to get dozens of emails/day promoting “must have” stuff.
It took me quite awhile to unsubscribe to most of them b/c I didn’t want to miss the next great thing but I’m finally down to just a few that I trust & really resonate with me.
There are obviously many unethical/dishonest tactics that are used to get a person to buy. Thanks for a terrific video explaining the psychology behind it.
Again thanks for your work Jim. You deserve your success. Randy
Hi Randy,
Thanks
Jim
That is what I did. I was on more and more lists, and started to see the same launches offered by different affiliates – using urgency and scarcity as the pull. I went for the freebies and tried to buy ONLY if it was appropriate for my stage in the Internet game, I TRUSTED the affiliate or the launcher, AND I had the money available – no credit cards. Overall, I regret only a $99 purchase so far. I also have unsubscribed from nearly everyone, and keep on just a FEW lists of trusted Internet advisors. Jim, you’re one!!! Thank you for the videos.
Jim,
The interview format is great – what an excellent media and mechanism to help people – good job on the intro, the script on video (”personal”, “leading the way”) is almost like a testimonial, you are a Grandmaster at it, I can see now why Oprah is leaving TV.
On a side note: I resemble the guy who bought the package from the pitchman.
The “big product” I am still learning, but the bonuses are most excellent. (The bonuses helped me justify “Choosing” to buy)
Gee, I actually learned how to program websites this summer. I probably would not have bought the main product if the interviewer had not been so good. (sometimes it takes Oprah to sell the Doctor)
The interviewer gave away a ton of excellent bonuses and provided so much, much more that I can not say I am dissatisfied at all.
In fact the bonuses keep on giving. ( a sign of Greatness)
So,am I happy that I got the pressured and spent the money? …It seemed liked an awful lot of money but, I have tools for now and tools that are building for the future… (yes I am happy)
As far as buying something for the future. I like the idea of having a “Big Project” that I can work on and develop the skills and ability to take me to the next big opportunity.
Here is an example: In order to be a Geophysicist I had to learn algebra, analytical geometry, calculus, physics, geology and then finally geophysics (5 classes).
This took me 5 years – this is not something I could do in a weekend a month or a year… and I don’t even like math.
I read a paperbacked book in the late 70’s by Og Mandino, The Greatest Salesman in the World and was able to build some great skills based on this book…
I like the idea of stopping three times a day, Once in the morning upon rising, Once in the Afternoon after the mid-day meal and Once in the evening before retiring.
During those periodic stops I look at my Purpose – I have two really cool “Now” Purposes (Fishing & Hunting) and two Purposes that are future driven… this allows me to stay on track… both Here & Now and to work on building a future.
So please don’t be so hard on the Guru’s you could end up being one some day and not even know how much good you are actually doing.
Your friend
Greg “Moose Man”
Hi Greg,
Duly noted
Jim
OMG!made my brain hurt just to watch!
You’ re a genius Jim!
Rebecca
My purpose was not to induce pain… only some new thought
OK, so we all know that the term Ethical Internet Guru is an oxymoron. There are a few of us out there, including Big Jim E, Paul Evans, and a few others who actually still have soul.
Now my question is this. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
I see it as a chicken and egg problem. Its kind of like the drug war. The druglord guys in Latin America and Asia say “we wouldn’t be in business if all those rich American addicts didn’t keep buying our crap”. There needs to be a new way to sell through JV’s and Affiliates, and someone needs to open an Info Junkie Clinic.
How many of you out there own about 6 or 8 courses, e-books, etc. and still have not made $50 online. Jim maybe you can publish the insider’s guide to marketing manipulation techniques for customers to read.
Jim, Thanks for the videos and your integrity.
Steve,
One thing you might consider reading is Sylvie Fortin’s report “Internet Marketing Sins” (FREE)
http://www.internetmarketingsins.com/
Though she published it a while ago, it’s still valid – VERY VALID and worth checking out…
Jim
Jim,
You are truly a gust of fresh air.
Ed Taylor
Thanks – BREATH
Jim?..this is the best video of your series so far! I think it is more real than fiction!! I think you have just revealed??the
man behind the curtain? most people who are open to buying online marketing products are looking for hope. They are looking
for a legitimate way to make money online because they are already dealing with ?pshycological pressure?. Pressure from their
creditors, spouse, kids, fear of failure, etc. I also understand that the basic essential in selling is to expose those pressure
points, offer a real solution and move someone to action, or they risk not solving their problem.
I train people in sales and marketing, but it comes down to sincerely caring about the party you are offering a
solution to. IM?s who prey on desperate people instead of offering a realistic, do-able solution or money making opportunities. We should appeal to folks who just may be smart enough to make a decision to purchase because your product is the
best solution for them. People buy what they want.If we need to
manipulate or create fear or confusion to take someones money before they come to their senses, that is call selling and if you can’t sell then you better keep your job. I use Hidden Persuader
Marketing. HPM is simply marketing that uses a single or multiple
persuasion triggers that typically have been embedded in verbal or written communication
beneath the conscious knowledge of the audience,in order to gain non-critical acceptance of your message usually in order to
direct them to some course of action.
Keep it up Jim!!! You may knock off a few ?Guru?s?, but only because you are exposing the greed behind their self proclaimed
?success?. Clear the way for the sincere professionals who truly want to help others, who have something of real value to offer
and care about the people in their prospecting campaigns. If we can?t make money doing it that way, than we should do
something else! I am like other people I have bought programs and software, ebooks and ect hoping this would solve all of my
problems but never did someting was missing from the programs that was keeping me from success with the programs I know
the people are looking for one thing that is going to make them rich. HPM is the brand new science of influencing people’s
thought processes while directing them to the specific actions by using subconscious or hidden persuaders to direct the
outcome of their decision making process that they want. I know that a lot the the Guru’s use this mechanism like frank kern
and other big Guru’s Mark joner and many others. That’s why are able to sell so much of their products they say the right
words that make the people take action and buy! People are falling for all the hype that is being market this month a lot of the programs are a bunch of crap don’t you thing so.
Jim,
You nailed it! I’ve seen this shadow creature before and have learned that it is best to avoid it entirely. You breathe easier for one. Two, that psychological pressure just ebbs away the farther you get.
Agreed…. keep it all in perspective and that helps a lot!
I wonder how many hands you need to count your enemies. But in the meantime, you get more friends than you could count.
Thank you.
WOW… now that’s a deep thought
Sooooooo true. There are many Mr. X’s out there. Thanks for creating awareness about this, Jim.
No problem!
I think the secret to all these super dooper ‘gurus’ is that they all take a hypnosis or NLP course, get human psychology down pat and then unleash it on the unsuspecting public
Or they take a course in attraction – how to push all the right buttons so that who ever they talk to will be instantly attracted to them / their message.
I used to be in manufacturing and retail and what sold was not the content, but the packaging. Many times we were asked by buyers to show the packaging and never mind the product because that was what sold.
For example you can have 3 simple plastic cars for kids, but if you package it right with all the right graphics, the big box, the oversized plastic containers and whatever, it looks instantly more expensive and attractive.
It was the packaging that was being sold.
I was thinking about it when I watched the video – the excessive packaging for something very ordinary, sometimes even substandard.
Then there is the scarcity, the pressure to buy, the ‘not wanting to be left out’ feeling. That reminded me of the ‘it’ toys at Christmas, the thing everyone has to have and suddenly, your kid can’t be left out and so the frantic buying begins…
Another thing I thought of was window dressing. If something was not selling, we used to put it in the display window because that would make it a focal point, something important, worth paying attention to which would translate into sales.
Bonuses = window dressing. They are a big focal point, something that has suddenly become important even if you have no intention of using it.
I don’t know if I am making sense. I guess what I am trying to say is that we need to focus on the content and not the flashy packaging; we need to know our own requirements and not have someone else tell us what we need, and we need walk our own paths and not follow the herd.
Every time I see a new launch, I am going to say to myself “Mr. X” from now on.
Michele,
I think you hit the nail on the head… there is a lot of psychology and NLP going on that people don’t realize…
I hope Mr X doesn’t haunt your dreams
Jim
Beauty Jim! Really nice job on this one. Keep em’ coming
ps-So many of these out there you could do Mr. and Mrs. “A-Z” to add to all the copy cat clones of Mr. “X” that actually think this crap works.
If people don’t know any better, it’s easy to get taken advantage of…. I’m all about self-responsibility, but people need help and guidance too.
Hi Jim,
Your video is great as always, you have a wonderful way of getting your point across. However, isn’t it amazing the number of people that fall for this type of sales pressure even though they see it everyday. I mean, just look at the offline business world, their is really no difference with the type of sales pressure that you get from salesmen from the many different industries that surround us. For example, How many people remember buying a new car, or new piece of furniture or appliances for your home?
When I bought my last sofa I remember the salesman following me all over the store even though I told him that I didn’t need any help. The salesman was giving me all kinds of options and bonuses if I bought a sofa that day. As well, you don’t even want to know about all the so called goodies and bonuses that came when I bought my last car.
So, sales hype and pressure! It’s all around us everyday. You just need to use some common sense when purchasing anything – be it online or offline. If you feel that you need a product online to increase your productivity, than buy it. If you don’t need the product or service, than don’t buy it. Get over it and stop wasting time worrying about it. Spend that time wisely, (which by the way is the most precious commodity), on building your own business efforts.
Thanks again Jim,

I agree. However, in a live selling situation, you do have the advantage of picking up the “slime vibe” you can’t get online sometimes.
But, you do boil down the point nicely.
Hi Jim,
Very well done. It’s amazing how all of these guys follow each other. There is nothing new under the sun! Thanks for exposing this. It provides more credibility for you.
When I went to Turkey… the tour guide said to me “We have a saying here: there’s nothing new under the sun.”
She said they’d been saying that for thousands of years…. which makes me think this isn’t anything new… know what I mean?
Thanks Sean
“What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.” ~Ecclesiastes 1:9
…definitely thousands of years, eh?
Uh, yeah! WOW!
Thank you so much for sharing that… my mind is spinning for a moment
Jim
This video is true. I have been checking out the stuff from different marketers and it is amazing how crappy even some “name” peoples stuff is. Its like you sell information whether its is useful or not. True or not. Yes hype sells a lot of garbage and yeah takes advantage of people. If you can’t get behind what you do because it is ethical why do it? Ethics in IM a joke its about the dollar, not helping others. That’s why the FTC got involved. Good post and tells the truth. Maybe people won’t believe this because it is so incredible sounding.
Thanks Big Lou!
So is it true that Smack Dog played the part of the Guru? And will the FTC now want you to disclose this to the public as your source?
ROFL – that was my original plan, but then he bit me when I tried to shave his head… so no, it was actually Quack Pot!
All I can say is “DUH”! That’s how the unscrupulous put the “Mark” in Marketing! I learned in retail sales that people really do believe it when an ad says “Free”.
It is not an online only issue, all sales and marketing is doing essentially the same thing; they are trying to get to you at a psychological level; to get you to think that their product or service is the “solution” to your “problem”
But once you recognize the game being played the Psychological Pressure no longer works, so it’s largely a matter of taking advantage of the noobs or those who as they say, “have more dollars than sense”.
I think all marketing had to get you to think this is the solution… I just think the ethics kick in with the HOW you get them to think it…. and again, this is subjective… it is a judgment call on all of our parts to decide which is which… what’s “good” and what’s “bad”.
I think ultimately that’s why people get pissed off about the FTC because they draw a line in the sand for the “typical” consumer (which is usually not considered the brightest representation).
Hi Jim, I think you are spot on with the guru stuff, I can’t remember how many times I almost hit that button for the buy but stopped short because I knew I couldn’t afford it.
My question now turns to the biggest kid on the block, Goog. They are now really playing bully on the corner and letting anyone who wants to be listed know it’s their way or the highway.
If you happen to create your site too fast or you supply too much content or get too many back-links for your site too quickly, they throw you in the sandbox.
I personally have a lot of time now that I am unemployed and I find myself getting penalized for working too hard. What is your take on that?
I understand your frustration, however, I think you need to remember that Google is not the only way to drive traffic…
There are MANY different ways to get traffic:
Buy
Borrow
Build
are the 3 main categories.
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
Jim
hahah… DEFINITELY real. In fact, my response to that is that a week ago I finally admitted it to my self and removed myself from most of my lists. Yup…. I watch the freebie videos, etc… then unsubscribe…except for you, Jim. Keep up the good work..you’ll get thru to us sooner or later.
I’ll keep trying
The courage to tell the truth is an amazing quality reserved for only the true at heart. Well done Jim, I love your work.
Hi Jeff,
Thanks!
Jim
I just watched this Jim and it’s the best one I have seen from the series so far……
It was frightening how you played this!!
Has Mr X already sent the BOYS ROUND????
The story is of course real and the person/s are real. Be interesting if you really took the BULL BY THE HORNS and mentioned names. But i think we know who Mr X could be
Cheers
Richard
I recently just got through disbanding myself from alot of that hype. I got tired of all the “guru’s” I had signed up with bombarding me with different versions of the same email all offering me a ton of bonuses. Never just an email shooting the breeze … always sales copy!
One of the biggest pieces to all that hype is the price increase ploy! You think to yourself ‘Oh no, the price is gonna skyrocket….I gotta get this today!’
Here’s one:
“This gem will be sold for $49. The introductory price of $29 is a ?Buy it NOW before it?s gone? offer? so act fast!?”
And that priceless bit came off one of YOUR pages! And old page with a younger you pictured on it. So right now, I’m seeing the pot calling the kettle black here!
I don’t mean to be contentious but come on! Even you are guilty of this. So what do you have to say for yourself, young man?
Hey Nancy,
Hmmmmmm… I think there’s a BIG difference between that tactic and the bullshit others are pulling… there’s a time and place for every tactic… it’s when it’s overused and manipulative that it gets old.
Also (old lady?), I will be re-releasing that product shortly and the price WILL go up… so thanks
Jim
Thank you. I figured this out a while back, but still read emails. One rat took some money from my account. So far I have not spent much money and I feel so sorry for the ones who have. I don’t know how such people sleep at night.
This happens to be wonderful stuff. Many thanks
You’re very welcome
Excellent video… yeah this really gets to the heart of it in a clever way. The black eyed GooRoos…
I honestly don’t think that the people I aimed this at give a royal rat’s a$$… I think they don’t care… unfortunately. But I’m glad you liked it
