Great points! I delete of lot of unessential email. But, I still open and read things I subscribe to (like the email I got about this blog post!). If I’m interested in the topic and I’ve requested information be sent to my email box, you’re darn tootin’ that I’m going to look at it.

Plus, I can access it any time and file messages into relative folders in my Inbox.

Can you imagine getting all your correspondence by text? My gosh, the ding-dings would be going off constantly. And, searching through Facebook posts would have to be better organized else the important update or message would be covered up in 30 seconds. No thank you.

Sure, there is a lot of garbage that comes into my E-mail box. But email has not replaced the U.S. postal box at the end of my driveway and I don’t think it will for many more years.

E-mail marketing is going strong. Jim’s 4-part series on email marketing is a must for anyone living in the 21st century and people should take advantage of the next level.

Spot on, as usual Jim. I laugh every time I get an email with a ‘death of email’ subject (get the irony – they’re using email to tell us email is dead?). I’m all for change – I wouldn’t be in this business if I didn’t embrace change – but I too believe email is here to stay. Facebook, Twitter, and other social sites are just that – social. It’s just a new venue, not a replacement venue.

And since I watched your video within 5 minutes of getting your email, I’d say you’re one of the few I actually enjoy opening and reading! :)

Hi Stephanie,

Thanks… you make some great points… they’re just tools… up to us to use ‘em right!

Jim

Gail,

GREAT point about post office box and email box… they didn’t replace each other and these new tools won’t replace those two either… each took in its place.

Thanks for the comment :-)

Jim

Jim,

With in an hour of sending your email, three people are replying to your post. Means Emails are not dead yet. Never will be … People like to have a personal corner (personal email) to keep in contact with next person. Facebook, twtter are public meeting places and great in a way to get people together, but they are not going to replace your personal corner.

Great video!

Now that IS good news!
I attribute emails to my success and to most of the vast amount of specialist knowledge I now have on all kinds of subjects…
Again, you are absolutely correct. It has to be used in a very clever way to get the results were looking for and it’s one of the core fundamentals of the Internet and communication.
I love email, especially yours…and I love the nelson Mandela type shirts you wear too!

August 24, 2010

Radhika,

That’s a very interesting way of thinking about it – a “personal corner”

That might make a very good article topic for you

Thanks

Jim

Hi Michael,

Thanks! Your taste in shirts sounds very good ;)

Email isn’t dead… we just have to be better at using it!

Jim

Jim,
You never email me anymore….LOL…just kidding.

These are excellent points and I’m so grateful for you and for the email marketing course you put on.

I watch my stats and the number of visitors to the site goes way up the days I email them. I don’t follow all of Armand’s guidelines though about short emails but I have found greater response when I point them to posts on the blog that they might have missed.

Once again thanks for taking us by the hand and teaching us to do what works, not some useless esoteric stuff. You are the best and I love your new looks!

Terrie

Jim, I get way too many emails, and am always trying to unsubscribe to things, however, YOURS is always the first email I open when I see it. You must be doing a bang-up job of being relevant, useful, and immediate!!

Great as always,

Jana

As I looked inside my inbox at all the email, I released a loud groan. Marketers are sending way too many Click Bank offers. I don’t even click open the ones with a free gift. The first email that I did open was yours. I know that your message will put a smile on my face maybe bring a few laughs and I’ll even learn something in the process.

August 24, 2010

Hi Jana,

Thank you… I really appreciate that :-)

Jim

August 24, 2010

Hi Terrie,

Thank you… I’m glad you’ve enjoyed the email course we’ve done in TNR

I think the biggest thing we need to do is KNOW our audience and have a sincere desire to help them – everything flows from that :-)

Thanks for the positive feedback!

Jim

Hi Lani,

We aim to please (and smile) :D

Very informative video as usual,

Thanks Jim

I agree that email can evolve but not die, nor can it be replaced by chatting or instant messaging. That’s because email is Time Unbound (as Mark Joyner put it.) Time Bound means that the recipient must be present to receive the message. Time Unbound means the recipient does not have to be present in the moment of transmission. That’s the niche email fills, and it will always be needed.

August 25, 2010

Hi Jim,

Some very interesting points there. Personally, I feel emails will be here to stay no matter what the circumstances are. They may just get ignored at times though. :)

The other social tools are awesome and a great way to communicate with others. But one thing I do think about from time to time is how often do people actually visit a site from one of these networks. I just feel that there are some people that would never leave their clique while on a social network. I guess that is why Marketing to the social networks has it’s challenges.

Regards,
Steve

August 25, 2010

Steve,

Great point… that’s why a lot of people say you should market on social networks without removing people from the network itself… everything has to happen right there… which DOES present some challenges.

Jim

August 25, 2010

Hi Timothy,

Please tell that to the people who expect an instant reply to emails they send… especially to support ;)

Hi Mike,

You’re welcome :D

August 25, 2010

Hi Jim
All the nonsense talked about email marketing and there’s one thing that most people forget.
If someone that has earnt your trust, and demonstrated that they will help you to further your goals – then you will always open their emails – regardless of any titles or guru ‘tricks or tactics’ that you think they may have used.
You want an example of this?
Well, I always open an email message from someone called Jim Edwards!
Benefit from great advice and no ‘hard selling’ , no ‘long winded’ videos (always short and to the point), and sometimes hugely entertaining!!
I find email much better than wading through the crowds on web 2.0 sites.

Graham in UK

P.S. I hope one day to be able to join your Cruise Trips Jim
P.P.S. Jim – I don’t mind your shirts or your ‘zany’ humor! (relaxed branding?)

August 25, 2010

Jim-

As usual, good stuff. I think you are dead on, email marketing is not “dead”, but traditional approaches to email marketing are indeed dying. With the multi-pronged approach you suggest in the video, the email marketing function is catapulted in front of what everyone else is doing.

Question: there seems to be a trend of adding optin forms on social media properties (FB pages) do you think this will be a lasting strategy down the road, or will it peter out in favor of linking to pages that contain optin forms?

Looking forward to learning more.

-Travis

August 25, 2010

Hi Graham,

Thanks… I really appreciate that…. I always think videos need to do the E3
Entertain
Educate
Empower

Comes down to whether the email is any good or not AND if you trust the person sending it

Jim

August 25, 2010

Hi Travis,

I think, ultimately, you’ll end up just linking to the opportunity to get more… I think the social aspect of all this precludes using a form on a social media page… and I think FB users will let you know that through lack of signups. BUT, in the end, “testing” gives the only real answer.

Jim —

Awesome video. You are stilll my “go to” guy when it comes to all-things-internet. Keep up the great work. We need guys like you to help us understand what it really going on in cyberspace.

Hi Wayne,

Thanks! Great to hear from you :-)

Hey, I still have that Frank Sinatra book you gave me… was looking at it the other night.

Hope you’ve had a great summer!
