Here’s why ‘The Secret’ pissed me off…

I’m going to get straight to the point today…

Traditional "goal setting" is a giant load of BS and the
movie ‘The Secret’ was over-hyped and only gave half the
story!

Here’s what I mean…

Every New Year’s Eve we’ve been told to set our goals for
the coming year, and it goes like this…

    * Write out a "wish" list on December 31…
    * Toast it with champagne at 11:59 p.m….
    * Forget all about it by noon January 2nd…
    * Life is back to "normal" by January 3rd…

Sound familiar?

I followed this "wishing" strategy my whole adult life and
all it did was land me in a trailer park, lead me to the
"poor house" and — ultimately — into a permanent heart
condition.

BUT… once I discovered how the "Law Of Attraction" really
works — and WHY we REALLY get what we want from life — my
life changed instantly for the better…

In fact, in the space of just 9 months, I used what I
learned to go from bankrupt and living in a trailer park to
owning my own home and earning a 6-figure income…in less
than 24 months I paid off my house…in less than 36 months
my wife quit her job and came to work with me full time…

…and in less than 48 months I had my life and finances
arranged so that I never have to work another day in my
life if I don’t want to…and in less than 72 months I
built not one, but TWO new houses for cash (one on 1,000
feet of water front).

Are you curious what strategies enabled me to do this (and
more importantly if it’s possible for you to make the same
incredible changes in your own life)?

    Hi Jim,
I couldn’t agree more with you…I was disappointed with The Secret too. I felt it was just largely marketing hype and vaguely touched upon what this law of attraction actually worked (if it exists at all). It was just a bunch of nice words that flowed beautifully combined with the right graphic design. My question to you is this…have you ever heard of String Theory and, if so, do you think it’s a possible explanation to the law of attraction. I first watched an interview with one of the field’s leading thinkers on hochstadt.com and felt that it was a better explanation. Cheers, Lilly

  • Jim,

I just finished watching the TNR replay of this and you are spot on! The Secret is just a secret for them to take people
s money. You and Chris are an awesome team and ALWAYS over deliver.

  • Ken:

About a year ago someone on a conference line asked me what I felt about “The Secret”. I said no comment and attempted to hide in the introductions as new arrival came on. Then others began asking me to share my feelings, so I did.
Bascically I said what you’re saying plus if they belived this info has been a secret they must have been asleep at every seminar, commencement speech, or church they have ever attended.

  • Hi Jim,

I’ve been one of your subscribers for several years, and I’ve read some of your books – including some that you co-authored with Joe Vitale.

I know a lot of people who formed “secret” groups and watched the movie, who eventually drifted off to doing something else, if they did anything at all. The “key” to the whole concept of “The Secret” (if there EVER was one) is TAKING ACTION. At least, that’s what I gathered from reading your books, reports, blogs and sales pages.

Nothing gets done if you don’t get off your rump and you take action on the ideas and concepts “bubbling up” out of your subconscious. When I bought a book, or a program, I went through it like a kid with a new toy. I devoured it!

Then I put into action what I had learned.

Dr. Joe Vitale is a friend of mine. And I don’t just say that because I’ve bought something from him. I’ve never done a “JV” with him, but I lived about 25 miles from his house and have been the beneficiary of his kindness.

I have had the distinct honor of his being my keynote speaker at a civic club meeting, and have promoted him in various public relations initiatives.

Out of all the books, audio courses, and movies that he has personally autographed and given to me, my favorite – still, to this day – is “There’s A Customer Born Every Minute.” ‘There’s A Customer’ never really received the exposure and promotion it deserved. But the key element I learned in it was to TAKE ACTION.

That’s really all I learned about “The Secret.” And I agree with Ken, if they didn’t get this concept – of getting off one’s butt and taking action – then, yes, they have been asleep. And if they didn’t “get it” from The Secret, then they were asleep “at the switch” on that one, too.

A lot of people have maligned The Secret because it WAS so superficial, because it didn’t go in depth. Yes, it was a marketing miracle (if you want to call it that) and it made Rhonda Byrne and crew a lot of money. I’m sure it made some money or all the “guest starts” in it, including Dr. Vitale.

But Dr. Vitale, and all the others in the movie, have made their money long before the movie came out, and they did it the Old Fashioned Way: they EARNED IT!

They got up off their ass and took action, knowing full well that they could not “sleep in” and have the money “roll in” while they were on vaction. And no, they did not get rich overnight. There are still a lot of days and nights where they put in long hours doing something to promote their business, or an aspect of it.

So, what people REALLY need to get pissed off about is themselves, and not the movie. The movie was just a vehicle to make you see yourself as you are.

When I was young, I would occasionlly get into trouble because I was a precocious lad. When I got caught, my mome (or dad) would always say, “Well, boy! You ‘brought it’ on yourself!” So, in a fashion, I’ve been practicing the Law of Attraction all my life.

It has NOT been a secret.

If people would quit whining about their miserable lives, and quit depending on the government to bail them out of their misery (which, by the way, is something of their own creation… theirs, AND the government) and PUT INTO ACTION the ideas and inspiration they received from reading a book or watching a movie, then their lives would be infinitely better.
