 "3-Payment Extortion Artists"

I have found a whole new breed of online "jackass" who will rip you off a brand new way (at least as far as I’ve seen)!

That’s right…. I discovered yet ANOTHER way for people to rip you off and suck your brain dry!

But I also have a very specific plan for dealing with these pinheads and I’d like to share it with you…

How to deal with the "3-Payment Extortion Artists"

Ron Rink :

You are SO-O-O right on, Jim. If enough of us who are interested in helping people enjoy a better life stand up to the pinheads who want to destroy that goal, then perhaps the message will get through.

(I know, I’m a dreamer.)

Good for you — smack ‘em down!

John Bradbury :

I’d support the Jim Edwards watch list of morons not to do business with, lol

name and shame, name and shame :-)

You’re right again, Jim!

I know you can’t do it with physical products, but with downloads, you can electronically lock products so that, if someone gets a refund, you can disable the use of the ebook / software.

These systems also protect you against illegal distribution of your e-products.

But at the end of the day, your advice is so correct - forget the bad ones and move on!

Kurt Hagemeister :

Having owned a retail store for over 13 years, I thought I’d seen it all too. But, your story takes the cake. That’s like someone writing a bad check, and then asking me for more merchandise when I called them to pay up! Is there some way you can issue a bad debt report against their credit rating? Maybe Clickbank or Paypal has some way of doing that.

On the positive side, I REALLY appreciate your 3 payment option and that WAS the factor that finally put me over the edge buying your course(I can be indecisive sometimes!) Thank you! So far, I think it’s an excellent product.
Your advice is also excellent - forget the bad customers and move on!

Jim;
I am new to Internet marketing, but have some experience in other businesses. You are so right there is another breed of people out there when you are dealing with credit. One that really sticks in my craw is when I painted a vehicle for a friend I grew up with and let him ‘owe’ me $150.00 when he picked up the car. I lost a customer and a ‘good’ (former friend) I never heard from him again. Of course there have been others but this one really hurt.I think you are right the best thing to do is fire them as a customer you don’t need that kind of hassle.
Pierre

Jim, I agree with you 100%. I’ve been burned by giving credit too so I know how you feel.

I make it easier to swallow by telling myself that these people will eventually burn themselves up. After a while, they’ll run out of people to scam.

Probably not true, but it sounds good anyway. If I dwell on it, my blood pressure goes up and it really hurts then.

Thankfully, 99.5% of the buying public is honest.

You’re so right, Jim. Get rid of them! They take up way too much mental space.

As an antidote, go re-read some of the countless letters from your Raving Fans!

Cheers,
Sheila

Jim,

In the end they are only hurting themselves! I don’t see any of these people making a good income on the internet. They are just lazy scam artistts. If they are cheating everybody it will come back to them.

I appreciate the payment plan and am glad you made it available.

Plus I enjoy your sense of humor.

My mother used to pin on the counter of the little grocery she ran the dud cheques. They quickly became rarer and rarer. Can’t you settle a virtual counter? Merci pour tout.

New Credit Scam to Watch Out For!

My friend Jim Edwards posted another of his “Friday Night Smackdown” audios over on his blog. During his last product release, he decided to offer a payment plan. Like many experiments, this one yielded unexpected results… The plan did indeed…

Jim is hunting idiots again….

Wow Jim Edwards is blown away by pinheads trying to extort him because he has been good enuff to offer a 3 payment plan

Sean

Hey, I’m right with ya. Especially when you say “just get rid of ‘em”. Who wants to nurture a relationship with someone who wants to rip you off? Why would anyone do that? Just so they can rip you off again on your next offer? Naahhh!

Just a thought - maybe you could hold back the bonuses until the last payment? Would that work?

Getting Stiffed !

No, I’m not talking about getting wasted!

I’m talking about not getting paid or getting ripped off. Did it ever happen to you?

Recently I had two of my paypal buttons cracked with a different thief for each circumstance. It was a first for me. …

Chuck Masterson :

At first I was going to say…yes Jim, your are over reacting (in public, anyway). These are business issues that 90% of your audience will never experience and so your dissing them is a waste of valuable “air time”. But on the other hand, posting a list of these extortionists at the end of each of your e-mails would likely bring a smile to 90% of your readers. So, check with your lawyer, and if possible “Smack ‘em” - Chuck

Les :

Jim, I hope it’s some consolation to you that I’m very grateful that you allowed me to make 3 payments. I’m on a disability pension and couldn’t have afforded to get the course any other way. If you hadn’t offered the payment option I couldn’t have got your excellent training.

There are some scumbags out there Jim. It just shows that selling on the internet is just like selling in the “real” world, with the same dark side of human nature sticking its nasty head up .

Thanks a lot Jim
Les

You’ve hit the nail right on the head Jim. Losers will always try to drag you down to their level. I’ve always adhered to, and I advise all our coaching clients as well — to FIRE clients when they don’t meet/maintain your qualifying criteria for doing business with you.

I’ve found that other clients will even thank you in some instances. And of course, your support staff will always be grateful too! :)

Bart R :

You speak like we all would like to speak to the duds out there. Three or four times a week in my off line store there are those that try to get something for nothing or think you work for nothing.

Anyway I like your flexable payment options and would buy again, if they were offered for a product I would like to purchase from you.

Please keep saying it the ways you see its.

Debbie Williams :

Jim,

I know exactly what you mean. When you are an honest person, dishonestly is so far from your day to day reality that it can be surprising to run into people that are scum.

Try not to worry about such people though because if you spend your energy on them you will have less energy for the 99.9 percent that are good.

April 16, 2005

Kenneth Kirchner :

Jim,

How unfortunate people are so devious but I have had them take my product and ask for a refund and then still expect some sort of freebie after they cost me money. The “Balls” as you said of some people are enormous for such small weasels hiding behind email adresses and the web.

How about locking certain credit card numbers and
people? No more scammers if they aren’t able to use those credit cards. Cash only on the barrel head.

Dave :

Out of line? YOU? NO FREAKIN’ WAY!

I would LOVE to see some names on this… we can all use pointers AWAY from certain predatory dipsticks and practices, and there is NO REASON why… oh crap… I just had a great idea, and I AIN’T GIVING IT TO YA!

In any case, theives are theives… the way I would deal with it is this…
Specify the hassles involved with this crud, the NUMBER OF PEOPLE DOING IT, and say straight out,
“THESE PRODUCTS WILL BE MADE AVAILABLE TO YOU AFTER THE LAST PAYMENT CLEARS”

I am sure you already know full well about the lockdown services out there but why BOTHER?

An honest guy will usually remain honest, but the DIRTBAG will take advantage of ANY opportunity to BE A BIGGER DIRTBAG.
Why give ANYBODY the chance to BE ONE?

ZERO download links until LAST PAYMENT would be the plan for me, even if I had to send confirmation emails with EACH PAYMENT to track it for the customers.
HONEST people wouldn’t mind, as they would understand it was due to protecting yourself from the DIRTBAGS we ALL know are out there.

April 26, 2005

Rick :

Like other posters, having a payment plan sealed the deal for me. Thanks, Jim!

What’s amazing is that these people screwed you over and yet they think they’ll be successful internet entrepreneurs. Hello?

I’ve learned that no matter what business I’m in, I’m ALWAYS in the “People Business.” Maybe some others need to get a clue.

Thanks for all you do, Jim. And I’m a firm believer in what goes around comes around. I wonder how these bandits will feel when they get worked over by customers who are just like them?

April 27, 2005

Phil :

You should threaten to add their names to a list of people with bad credit / scammers that will be shared amongst all internet marketers.

Teri Mramer :

Hi Jim,

I totally agree… I have a course (Similar to yours actually, but it is ten classes and taught online) and I offer payments for it too.

I was doing fine until I got hit by a Vulcan mind-meld client who thought my teaching how to build websites also included how I do everything in my business, plus me building their web sites for them!

I just politely replied that what they were asking for was beyond the scope of the course and our agreement. That I had no problem doing the additional work, and that my hourly rate was $x.

And held my breath… Fortunately for me, it worked out OK as I gained two new web clients and a coaching / consulting client. :)

Thank goodness!

But if it had turned out badly, I would have stuck to my guns too and refunded them.

You can’t have “Life Energy Leeches” taking the joy out of your day. :)
So here’s wishing you some joy to replace what was sucked out of your day!

Murray Priestley :

Wow - what an eyeopener.

Publish their names.

I would like to see a “Shame File”.

What they have done is illegal in all countries that I know of - plain and simple.

There’s this blonde out for a walk. She comes to a river and sees another blonde on the opposite bank. “Yoo-hoo!” she shouts, “How can I get to the other side?” The second blonde looks up the river then down the river and shouts back, “You ARE on the other side.”

Protection Against Malicious Customers

This kind of extortion is described most clearly in Internet marketing expert Jim Edward’s blog… Jim’s a very sincere person, and I felt truly sorry to hear a description of his plight in the video version of his blog…

But the fact is that now…

Lucky Balaraman :

Hey Jim, there’s now a TERRIFIC solution to the problem… there’s a database for merchants that lists malicious customers!

When you join the site, you get to enter information about your offending customers, as well as view similar data that fellow merchants have put in.

Check out http://chargebackbureau.com

Hooray!!

Jim, I’d rather read your blog entry than listen to an mp3 streaming… I am awake at 4am, with my wife sleeping a few feet from my desk, and no headphones around… Bummer, I’d like to hear your rant, it sounds interesting, but I dont’ want to listen to my wife’s rant if I wake her up by listening to yours….

Michael Worthington :

Hey Jim,

I feel for you, and I understand completely where you’re coming from! I’ve had similar experiences from subscribers to my membership site where I ended up losing several thousand dollars in revenue due to what I classify as brain dead morons.

My reaction is to refund their money, and block them from ever buying anything from me again as best I can.

Some would argue that going above and beyond will make some otherwise “unhappy” customers into good ones. Well, I don’t need ‘em! If the quality of my product isn’t up to par, that’s one thing. But don’t keep it for a year and then tell me I’m trying to rip you off!

Some would also argue that going to the trouble to block them is wasting valuable time that could be better spent acquiring and marketing to new customers.

That’s Horse$hit!!! It doesn’t take anywhere near as long to block an IP and email address as it does screwing around with some jerk that’s only going to take you for a ride in the end!

Whew! I feel much better now!
Thanks, Jim. :-)

Michael
