No matter what you sell online, you can sell more!

Simple surveys provide the fastest way to collect the information and marketing intelligence you need to make more sales.

Whether you sell gift baskets, software, custom homes, ebooks, DVDs, personal services, or even antiques, accept the fact that surveys pave the way to increased sales online.

First, by doing a survey before trying to sell people anything (or even create it in the first place), you don’t guess on what they want to buy.  They will flat out tell you!

Second, if you use a simple survey in the correct way, it can help you compile your own best prospect list. 

Run the survey and compile a list of people who respond favorably to certain key questions regarding a product or service, just make sure the people taking your survey understand that you will contact them later.

Then offer them a special deal or advanced access to the product because they responded to the survey questions.

A simple survey also operates with several hidden psychological benefits for boosting your sales. 

On the subconscious level for existing customers or prospects it shows them that you actually care about what they think.

Conducting a survey demonstrates your concern for what they really want, instead of just trying to force-feed them a one-size-fits-all product or service!  People appreciate that type of attitude and it shows up in increased sales for you down the road.

A simple survey also gets the audience thinking and wondering about WHY you did the survey in the first place.  "Will he bring out something really different and good?" "How can I get it?" "How much will it cost?" "Will it help me?"

The survey also builds anticipation for a product or service, even if you don’t offer it yet! 

Doesn’t it sound great to get people mentally waiting in line so they can buy? 

It all comes from just running a simple survey which asks their opinions.

Make sure you structure your survey questions properly to find out what you need to know, but avoid getting answers that will actually throw you off track.

You need to take a three pronged approach in designing your survey so you get the meaningful information you need. 

First ask if they fall into a certain specialized group or interest like Realtor, gourmet chef, or thoroughbred racehorse trainer?

Then, if they do fall into your target niche, ask them what they specifically want to buy.

For example: a software developer could ask Realtors about their specific needs for prospecting software and if certain features were important or not.

The third type of question pinpoints the level of interest: very interested, kind of interested, or just barely interested. 

By conducting your surveys this way, you not only get the valuable marketing intelligence you need, but you build goodwill and anticipation in the marketplace, along with a targeted prospect list to boot. What a deal!

Have You Achieved *Real* Independence Yet?

Tomorrow, in the U.S., we celebrate "Independence Day"… a day that commemorates independence from oppression and liberation from those who would seek to keep you from setting your own course and controlling your own destiny.

Have you had your own personal "Independence Day" yet?

Since you’re a subscriber of mine, I sure hope so… but if not, what can you do to gain independence using the power of the Internet?

First, let’s talk about what "independence" really means…

To me, "Independence" means:

- You don’t punch a clock for someone else…

- Your time is your own and you spend it how you want…

- You don’t trade time for dollars! But rather you have a business that makes you money whether you show up or not… (The Web makes this easier than ever before in history!)

- Your business is a "means to an end" that enables you to pursue your passions and dreams instead of being a "wage slave"…

- Your business and income grows every year without forcing you to work more hours…

- Properly structured, your business becomes an asset that provides for your family if, God forbid, something happens to you and you’re not able to take care of them…

By the way, if you’re spending all your time answering support emails, answering the phone, putting up mini-sites, writing copy, creating products, and "DOING" what it takes to run your business… you have a JOB, NOT a business!

It’s important at this time of year that you take a step back and take a look at what’s distracting you from the big picture of your TRUE "independence!"

A lot of people get into an online business with the hopes of killing their "day" job, but all they do is trade one job for another (often working MORE HOURS at the online business "job" than they ever did on their original job)!

If you want true independence, you NEED TO DO THE FOLLOWING:

#1 You need your OWN product!

The people telling you that you can get by and grow JUST by selling as an affiliate are FULL OF IT!

(In fact, look at their business and see how many of their own products they sell – including the course you bought from them on how to make it big as an affiliate!)

The main problem with operating strictly as an affiliate is that you don’t have an asset!

You don’t own the customer list… you don’t own the product… and if the people you’re referring sales to disappear or don’t pay, you’re @#$% out of luck!

BOTTOM LINE: Get control of your OWN product if you want true online independence.

#2 You need to BUILD a LIST!

You actually need to build 2 lists if you want to make money, whether you want to make money selling your own product or as an affiliate.

The first list you build is a prospect list – people who are interested in your niche in general.

The second list you build is a customer list – the people who BUY YOUR PRODUCT (see #1 above).

#3 You need to put SYSTEMS to work in your business.

Why?

So you can remove YOU from the processes that actually drive your business!

In other words… ultimately your business can’t depend on you to DO much of ANYTHING if you want to have a business that is a "real" business.

You can start things.

You can figure things out.

You can get the whole ball rolling.

But after that, get out of YOUR OWN WAY!

You need people, teams, software, and systems in place so that your business can run without your day-to-day interaction or input.

That’s a REAL business!

As the Web grows and online promotion gets more popular among even small businesses, the cost of online advertising continues to rise.

In the last 18 months, any online business owner will tell you that it now takes a lot of work, time, and money to bring a visitor to your site for the first time.

Pay-per-click advertising costs in particular have seen dramatic increases in response to both market demand (bids going up) and profit motive by the search engines (increased prices).

Smart marketers know that it rates a lot easier and cheaper to "recycle" visitors for a return visit than to attract them in the first place.

The following tips will help any website owner – large or small – recycle Web surfers into repeat visitors and customers.

** Publish A Newsletter: Nothing brings a horde of visitors back to your website faster than sending an email to a targeted list of subscribers who signed up for your email newsletter.

In fact, this tactic lies at the heart of virtually any successful online entrepreneur's business plan.

Use your newsletter to develop a relationship with your subscribers and then leverage that relationship to recycle people back to your website (and to others) in order to make sales.

CAUTION: don't fall into the trap of making your newsletter nothing but a big "pitch" to spend money.

You must give people good, relevant content if you hope to grow your newsletter into a true business building tool.

** Surveys: Hold an interactive poll or survey on your web site.

Ask your website visitors questions about a topic of intense interest to them.

Not only do people enjoy giving their opinion, but they'll also want to read the results as you compile them and update them on your website over the next day or week.

If you want to get their email address, tell them you'll send the updated survey results via email.

** Original Content: People go online first and foremost to get specific, relevant, timely information in areas that interest them.

For some that means news articles, for others sports scores, and for others it means current prices for things like stocks or commodities.

Whatever content they want, give it to people in a way they can't find anywhere else (or at least not very easily) and make it easy for them to see that your site rates a bookmark in their browser so they can return often.

** Use A Blog: People crave up-to-the-minute news on subjects about which they feel very strongly.

Some investors, for example, spend hours combing the Web for nuggets of information to help them evaluate specific markets, companies, or stocks.

One way to make your site invaluable to your audience members is to simply post a news bite, tip, or current "nugget" of relevant information on your blog daily.

If you develop a dialog with your prospects and customers, then you can quickly build up a regular following of recycled traffic.

Remember this: as the Web gets more vast and complicated, it becomes increasingly difficult to find trusted sources.

Once people find a site they trust, they tend to latch on to it until given a reason to change.

Adding these "recycle" elements will make your up-front traffic costs easier to bear since you know they'll ultimately get you multiple visits for one price.

Poop hits the fan with PDF files… (Adobe Acrobat Reader Security Alert)

I was alerted to this problem by one of my trusty www.TheNetReporter.com subscribers.

It seems a major security problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader (used to view PDF files) came to light this week.

It appears hackers can use Acrobat Reader to launch malicious code. This has been public knowledge among hackers for over a week.

THE BOTTOM LINE: If you want to avoid problems, according to Adobe, upgrade your version of Acrobat Reader to ver 8 or later and you won't have a problem.

Ver 8 is apparently NOT available as a patch, but rather you must do a new install of Acrobat Reader 8, available from http://www.adobe.com/go/getreader

Hey, I don't make the news… I only report it.

This does not appear to be a baseless scare, but rather something you *need* to take action on.

1. Get the facts

2. Upgrade your version of Reader as appropriate (it's free)

3. Keep your eyes open for news on this issue
