Online Temptation Blocker (article)

Jim Edwards here with an update you WILL LOVE…

It’s about a free PC software program called
“Tempation Blocker” that I found out about through my
friend, Rich Schefren.

I wrote an article (below) about it for my newspaper column
that runs tomorrow, but you get the scoop today :-)

I’m telling you… this simple software can skyrocket your
efficiency like very few things I’ve ever seen before.

Oh, if you like the article, feel free to share it on your
blog, on your website, in your autoresponder, or in your
newsletter (see simple reprint instructions at the end).

Have a great week,

Jim

One of the best things about doing business online involves
the fact that with a computer and Internet connection you
can do just about anything you want.

One of the worst things about doing business online involves
the fact that with a computer and Internet connection you
can do just about anything you want.

In a business context, computers and Internet access
represent the ultimate double-edged sword that requires
discipline and self-control when it comes to the endless
possibilities of how to spend your time.

Now, for all of us who fall into the category of needing a
tad more will-power to stay on task, help arrives in the
form of a free software app for PC called “Temptation
Blocker.”

Originally developed to help the software’s author avoid
playing “Half Life 2″ (a great game, by the way) while under
pressure to meet a critical deadline for his work,
“Temptation Blocker” operates with a very simple purpose.

He knew that if he could just let the sane part of himself
set limits, he would head off the game playing in moments of
weakness later on during the day.

Now, for the rest of us who need a little help avoiding
temptation throughout the day, we can use this same program
in a variety of ways.

The software comes free of charge for PC users (sorry, no
MAC version at this time) by logging on to
http://thenetreporter.com/temptation-blocker.html

Download the software and follow the simple installation
steps and then restart your computer.

Once the software installs, you start it up and see a list
of the programs in your computer’s Start Menu.

You can check off the ones you want to block, tell it how
long to block them, and then get to work.

If you ever give in to temptation and try to start the
blocked programs, a dialogue box pops up telling you how
much longer until the programs are available again.

If the program you wish to block doesn’t show up in the
list, you can browse for it and add it to the program list.

If it lists programs you know you’ll never want to block,
you can right mouse click them and remove them individually
from the list.

You can then create profiles to block specific programs
based on the job you need to get done.

* The Email Addict *

I admit it: I’m addicted to email.

I’ve developed a compulsion to click the “Send/Receive”
button on my Mail Washer software at least every 5-10
minutes throughout the day.

Not only does it distract me to run down at least a half-
dozen rabbit-holes daily, but it also adds greatly to my
overall stress level.

By blocking access to my email program, I’m actually weaning
myself out of the habit of constantly checking email every
few minutes and reclaiming valuable time.

* Get Work Done! *

No matter what deadline you face, by blocking those programs
which tempt you to sidetrack and waste time, you’ll actually
get more time to enjoy them!

Instead of fragmenting your time into inefficient bits, you
can concentrate on one task at a time, get it completed, and
then do whatever you want with the extra free time – and do
it with a guilt-free conscience.

6 Surefire Ways To Squeeze Maximum Sales From Your Website

6 Surefire Ways To Squeeze Maximum Sales From Your Website

– by Jim Edwards

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

I would venture to say that not a single website in the
world has reached its peak of effectiveness or earnings
potential.

No matter the circumstances, every site can “better its
best.”

If a “magic” formula for website success existed, you’d see
the big boys like Google and Yahoo using it.

Since no formula exists, they constantly test and tweak for
new ways to squeeze more money from their sites, and you
should too.

If you operate a website and want to squeeze maximum revenue
from it, the following 6 tips will kick-start your efforts.

#1 – Test Headlines

Just like a newspaper headline, the headline on your website
represents the single most powerful factor in grabbing a
reader’s eye and pulling them into your site.

Most websites do not have a headline or, if they do, it’s
limp, wimpy, and carries zero “punch.”

Every website should carry a compelling headline to let
visitors know exactly what they should expect to get from
the site.

I’ve personally seen one headline outperform another by 400%
on the exact same website.

#2 – Offer Payment Plan

Why do you think pitchmen on TV offer “3-easy payments” of
only $19.95 on a $60 product?

Because the technique works for increasing sales!

Often, people either don’t want to or can’t come up with the
payment all at once, but can pay over time.

If you sell a product priced at $100 or more, try breaking
the price up into smaller payments to increase sales.

#3 – Test Guarantee Period

Like it or not, people don’t always trust promises on your
website to live up to the realities of your product.

To remove risk for the customer, you should offer a refund
or money-back guarantee (not offering one will, in most
cases, kill your conversion rate).

However, it’s been said by “experts” that the longer the
guarantee period, the lower the refund rate.

My experience does not support that advice. I suggest you
test various refund periods to see which nets you the most
sales balanced against the least refunds.

#4 – Test Audio Instructions

One of the best ways to increase sales is to include an
audio button on your site that tells people exactly what to
do in order to buy or subscribe.

Telling people in no uncertain terms to “Enter your name and
primary email address in the box and click the button” has
proven one of the most effective means of getting website
visitors to take the actions you want.

#5 – Follow Up

Most online businesses totally blow it when it comes to
follow-up, especially with existing customers.

Follow up with your customers at least once or twice a month
and it will amaze you how easily you can make “back-end” and
repeat sales.

Industry news, tips-and-tricks, and helpful hints combined
with a low-key, specific offer for another product or
service makes an excellent follow-up formula for both
prospects and existing customers.

#6 – Start a Blog

A blog makes it extremely easy to keep your customers and
prospects updated, as well as providing a dynamic means for
new people to find you through the search engines and blog
directories.

Blogger.com allows you to start a blog even if you don’t
operate a website, and WordPress.org makes it easy to add a
blog to your existing website.

Take Time To Chill :-)

A Friday Thought:

Why do we work so hard?

Is life a race from birth to death (and I’m trying to come in first)?

It’s important to bust your hump and “do good” in the world… but is it worth making yourself miserable on “the way” to happiness?

Is happiness a “future” event… or part of the process I seem to think is not a journey, but rather a destination?

Will anybody give a rat’s patoot that I worked 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year?

Will my tombstone say “He should have put up one more website!”?

Will my wife say “Wow, I wish he had checked his email one more time each day!”?

Am I building happy memories sitting here at the keyboard that I will cherish when I’m old… or will I have regrets?

Take time to chill… laugh… hang with your buddies… and don’t just chain yourself to the computer… the computer won’t be your friend when you’re 64!

Yahoo! Jumps On Video Bandwagon

– by Jim Edwards

© Jim Edwards – All Rights reserved
http://www.thenetreporter.com
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Despite Google’s “Wall Street Darling” status, Yahoo! still
rates as the most popular cyber-destination, getting more
visitors than any other single website on the Internet.

With the recent surge in production and consumption of
online video, it’s no wonder that Yahoo! wants a piece of
the action, especially with the intense interest from
marketers eager to find the best way to cash-in with video
advertising.

Though Yahoo! cataloged online video long before Google’s
entry into the online video market, a massive redesign of
Yahoo!’s video interface indicates they want a bigger piece
of the online video pie.

When you log onto http://Video.Yahoo.com, it looks pretty
much like every other online video search engine, such as
YouTube.com or Video.Google.com.

You can search for videos by keywords as well as log in and
upload your own videos right through your web browser to
share with others online.

You can also easily share the videos with your friends in a
number of ways, including: posting it on your blog; sending
an email with a link; and adding it to your publicly
available favorites for others to see.

However, despite the similarities, Yahoo! Video does carry
some variations worth discussing.

Hosted vs. Linked Video

Virtually every single other major video directory on the
web hosts all the video that gets displayed on their sites.

Google Video, iFilm, YouTube and others all force the user
to upload video to their servers before inclusion in the
directory.

Yahoo! Video does both. Users can either upload their videos
through their web browsers to the Yahoo! servers or wait for
Yahoo! to find the videos and include them in their
directory.

The fact that Yahoo! includes remotely hosted videos in
their search results means you have a better chance of
finding the videos you want, since you get more potential
choices with each search.

However, it also means a greater chance of going on a wild
goose chase when a video file no longer exists on a remote
server.

Video File Formats

Almost every single other video directory converts uploaded
videos to the FLV file format before making them available
for viewing.

This enables both Mac and PC users to view videos using the
free Flash browser plug-in.

On the other hand, since they both host and link to video,
Yahoo! Video makes available multiple file formats,
including FLV, WMV (Windows Media Video), MPEG and more.

Since all of these formats don’t work on every computer and
operating system, I believe this will cause confusion among
users.

And, based on my experience, confusion causes people to look
elsewhere for what they want.

Overall, Yahoo!’s video service looks more like a “me too”
effort than a serious attempt at innovation.

Yahoo! does not include video in their main search results
page, the advertising on the video results page is not
targeted, and the multiple file formats will create
frustration for some users.

Despite any shortcomings, if you publish online video, of
course make sure you submit your video to Yahoo! simply
because the Web’s most popular site is bound to get you some
extra visitors.
