Personal Update

I had an attack of atrial fibrilation (a really bad one) on Friday… that means the top part of the heart beats so fast the bottom can’t keep up… if it goes on for very long you can get a blood clot that can travel through your body and do some serious damage.

What makes this really odd is that I understand Tony Blake, a well-known marketer from the Tony Blake Forum at www.ablake.net/forum had an attack of the same thing on the same day :-(

Very odd indeed and we need to send our prayers out for Tony’s speedy recovery.

The condition is brought out by stress and lack of rest…. and it gets worse as you get older.

This is the worst attack I’ve had in more than 5 years.

It was very sobering to sit there in the emergency room with tubes sticking out of my veins and about 2 dozen wires hooked to my body.

All the travel lately, stressed out over all the stuff I have to do (and planned to do), combined with the worry over my sister in-law having a heart attack last week just kind of came to a head this past week.

My doctor says no travel for a month and I need to take it very easy (not a bad deal since he said video games are ok)… so I had to cancel a trip to the World Internet Summit LA and a trip to Atlanta.

What made it a little scarier was that we are over here at the new house and didn’t know where the hospital was… but our neighbor hauled us up there lickety split… faster than an ambulance could get to us way out here in the country.

God and I have come to an understanding… I’m gonna work in a less stressed manner and smarter… and I’m gonna stop to smell the roses a little more than I have been.

Anyway… that’s what happened to me this past weekend.

On a happier note… my sister-in-law, Evelyn Kirby, is recovering at home from her heart attack :-)

Thanks everyone for all the prayers and support… it REALLY helped and we’re very grateful.

Have a great week!

The Best Website Traffic Sources

The Best Website Traffic Sources

Not a day goes by that any serious website owner doesn’t
wonder how to get more traffic to their site.

This intense desire to generate more clicks makes virtually
any online entrepreneur easy prey to many of the traffic
schemes and scams that pervade the Internet like conmen on a
carnival midway.

Promises of fast traffic and big bucks often separate even
the most savvy business person from their money because they
want to believe the promises made by these traffic
hucksters.

However, rather than thinking “complicated equals better” in
the traffic game, the best website traffic sources rate
extremely easy to separate from the useless garbage traffic.

Fact: “Good Traffic” equals “Targeted Traffic!”

That means the visitors come as a result of desire to find
out more on a specific, niche topic, not as a result of
“exit” traffic or membership in a “safe” list where members
simply pitch each other in an incestuous spam fest.

Good traffic comes from people clicking links on topics
targeted to their interests and getting directed to a
website containing information they want and expect as a
result of clicking the link.

Bottom line, when you get right down to it, the best, most
dependable sources of targeted traffic come from links that
people click.

So, next time you’re considering spending money on a traffic
source, understand that unless it involves a targeted link
that a targeted visitor can click to get to your website,
think twice before opening up your wallet.

To my knowledge, only three ways exist to get a link to your
site: buy it, “voodoo” it, or grow it.

** Buy Links**

Buying links actually rates the fastest way to get traffic
to your website.

You simply sign up for Google AdWords at Google.com or you
open an account with Overture.com.

You then run ads with a link on those sites and any time
someone clicks the link, you pay for the click through a
relatively straightforward bidding process based on the
popularity of the keyword.

You can also buy links in ezines, newsletters, and on other
people’s website either on a per-click basis, for a period
of time (a week or month), or in exchange for paying them a
commission if a sale gets made as a result of a click on
the link.

** Linking “VoodDoo” **

Linking “voodoo” refers to attempting to manipulate the
search engines into displaying links to your website.

You can find a large number of automated software programs
online at any given time that will claim to help you get
more search engine traffic.

Depending on the intensity of competition in a specific
market, and the fact that search engines change their rules
frequently, pursuing search engine links can quickly turn
into the online equivalent of Alice chasing the rabbit down
a hole to “Wonderland.”

** Grow Links **

I personally prefer this method to get links to my websites:
growing them.

The best type of link to get involves one person telling
another person, either explicitly or implicitly, they should
click the link and visit the site at the other end.

One way to do this is simply to exchange links with another
site which targets the same audience as your site.

You can manage this process manually or use one of the many
software packages that will mange the process for you.

A search on Google.com for “reciprocal link manager
software” yields a good start.

The easiest way to grow links is through using articles
other people post on their websites which link back to your
website.

The reason articles work so well for “growing” links
involves the numerous ways in which articles get distributed
online, each of which can create dozens, hundreds, even
thousands of different links back to your website by
publishing a single article.

As time goes by, and as the article spreads around, the
number of links literally “grows” over time (but unlike
a houseplant, you don’t have to water an article!).

In fact, the following represent only the tip of the iceberg
when it comes to all the places you can grow and expand the
links to your site by publishing articles online.

~ Blogs – Your articles can not only appear on your own
blog, but get posted by others on their blogs with
surprising ease.

The links in these articles can point directly back to your
website.

~ Article Directories – Article directories such as
IdeaMarketers.com abound online.

They not only provide an easy way to display your articles
to allow others to pick them up for posting on their
websites, but also in and of themselves attract readers
searching for content.

~ OPS (Other People’s Sites) – Popular websites like
WebProNews.com attract repeat visitors by offering targeted
content to their readers.

Since they can’t produce all the content themselves, they
publish articles created by others. Links from these sites
can bring a steady stream of targeted visitors by giving you
targeted exposure.

~ Ezines – By getting your articles published in other
people’s ezines, you can get a link on the most valuable
real estate online, a targeted prospect’s email “inbox.”

Many ezine publishers run articles written by others to their
targeted readers, and your link in the resource box can
bring you a veritable avalanche of targeted site visitors
when hundreds, even thousands of people receive your article
at the same time.

Whether you choose to buy them, “voodoo” them, or grow them,
getting targeted links to your site posted on the Internet
represents the absolute best way to get steady traffic to
your site.

Though not as fast as buying them or as exciting as trying
to manipulate the search engines, growing links with
articles
gives you a long-term, dependable presence online.

Can Anyone “Really” Set Up Their Own Money-Making Websites Without A Web Designer… Or Is Making Money Online Just A Big Scam?

With so much hype online about making money scams, network marketing, and worthless "get rich quick schemes," it’s hard for everyday people to know whether they really can make money on the Internet.

Washington, D.C. "9/8/05"  The Internet represents the greatest boon to mass communication on a shoestring budget known to mankind and a growing number of non-technical people are using "mini-websites" to quickly create income streams on the Net.

"Gone are the days of needing a huge website costing thousands of dollars and taking months to create," says mini-site expert and syndicated newspaper columnist, Jim Edwards. "With a compelling offer, an in-demand product, and the right target audience, you’ll get much better results with a one-page website than with a "traditional"site containing dozens, even hundreds of pages."

Edwards recently released "The Mini-Site Creator"home study course at http://www.minisitecreator.com to teach everyday people the methods he’s used to create more than 2 dozen money making websites selling everything from ebooks to software. He even sells a "yping tutorial" that promises to teach you how to become a touch typist in less than 2 weeks.

"Mini-sites" represent a dramatic shift in website design, especially for smaller "micro"entrepreneurs looking to set up part-time businesses on the Web. Instead of creating a massive website costing thousands of dollars to produce, someone with a computer, Internet connection, and a little patience can set up a one page website (mini-site) to sell their own product or someone else’s for a sale commission. Mini-sites generally fall into 4 categories: sales letter mini-sites; newsletter mini-sites; affiliate showcase mini-sites; and research mini-sites.

"With the rising cost of gas, uncertain economic times, and a trend towards home-based business, a mini-site can generate extra income you set up quickly and run on "auto-pilot" 24 hours a day," claims Edwards, who also publishes TheNetReporter.com, a general interest Internet news column. "The point is not to try getting rich off one site, but to set up a series of sites, almost like little online oil wells!"

Many of his students have set up mini-sites to sell information products and software on such subjects as stock market tips, computer spreadsheet preparation, dog training, and even female body-building.

Edwards teaches anyone with basic computer knowledge the mechanical step-by-step process for creating each of these types of mini-sites in his course, the "Mini-Site Creator" at http://www.minisitecreator.com. He also offers a free hour-long audio entitled "Mini-Site Secrets" to anyone who visits his site.

Hurricane Relief – BS Marketing Tactics

The following message (below) was sent out by my friend,
Armand Morin.

As you can imagine, everyone is feeling frustrated by the loss
of life and the difficulty in relief reaching the victims.

Earlier this year, I did donate all the proceeds from sales
of my “5-Steps To Getting Anythng You Want” to victims of the
tsunami…. so I’m not sure I 100% agree with the second part
of Armand’s rant… however, I understand his frustration and
I have seen how people are using this for thinly veiled profit
motives.

Maybe a better way to do it is to say, “Hey, if you donate here, here or here for this amount or more… and send me
a copy of your receipt, I’ll GIVE you my product (whatever it is).”

That way we know the money immediately goes directly to the source that needs it… and people’s giving is not delayed by a 3rd party.

I 110% agree, however, that any… repeat, ANY profiteering on the coattails of this disaster should be dealt with swiftly, and the offending parties have their body parts removed 17th century style!

My 2-cents…

Jim

From: Armand Morin:
Re: Hurricane Katrina

I normally don’t write about things like this, but sometimes
you have to speak up about things that are just plain wrong!

I have been watching the news about Hurricane Katrina as I am sure
you have been too. My heart goes out to these people and I pray
they get the assitance they need as fast as humanly possible.

What makes me sick are the emails I have been receiving over
the past few days from people “claiming” to help. Maybe they
are sincere maybe not. I don’t know.

————————————————————-
Case #1 – A Scumbag Marketer
————————————————————-

One marketer sent out information about how you can help. I
clicked on the link because I want to help out as much as I
possibly can.

Here’s what made me sick to my stomach…

He had the nerve to actually require you to enter your name
and email address into an optin box in order to get the info!!!

What a marketing SCUMBAG! I normally don’t talk like this, but
this one really got on my nerves. Why not just give the info?

Is this guy really that bad off that he has to profit
from these poor people? That’s about as low as it gets!!!

————————————————————-
Case #2 – Buy My Crap and I’ll Donate (I don’t think so)
————————————————————-

I am certainly not going to buy anyone’s stuff and HOPE that my
money goes to these people. Think about it, it first has to go
to this person and then they have to take out their supposed
costs and then, MAYBE, they’ll forward they money on to a worthy
charity.

I DON’T THINK SO!!!

What is this person thinking? Hmmmm… if I use this DISASTER
which has left thousand of people HOMELESS… I can get my
product into the hands of more people… YOU IDIOT!

Again… another person who seems to be high on crack!

If you want to by a product, then buy a product. If you want
to donate, then donate directly to the source. PERIOD!

You don’t have to buy a product in order to donate your
money to worthy charity or organization. Just do it.

Let me make my stance PERFECTLY CLEAR!

YOU DON’T PROFIT FROM OTHER PEOPLE’S MISFORTUNES!

These people are devastated, they lost their jobs, their homes,
some lost their loved one’s lives, or maybe even their own life
due this major catastrophe…

How dare these people try to profit from this distaster!

I urge you to NOT support these SCUMBAGS!

————————————————————-
If You Want To Help The Hurricane Efforts
————————————————————-

Here’s two links to legitimate organizations to donate you
money to if you want to help.

FEMA – http://www.fema.gov
Red Cross – http://www.redcross.org

Feel free to pass this message on to someone else.

Take my name off of it… I don’t care. I just want to make
sure your kindness goes in the right direction and you are not
putting faith in people who are trying to profit from this.

Help someone and donate what you can today.
