New “Goodies” At Google

Search giant, Google.com, recently expanded their reach yet
again by offering new and expanded services going far beyond
simply searching the Internet for relevant information.

Jumping on a growing bandwagon already teaming with millions
of active users, Google now offers its own SMS search
service to allow mobile phone users access to their
database.

Google also released “Desktop 2,” a personal information
manager that resides on your desktop to organize everything
from rss feeds and stock quotes, to photos and the weather.

Make no mistake, though Google seems to possess an uncanny
ability to make things useful and “cool,” these latest
offerings represent Google staking out territory on your
desktop against rivals Microsoft and Yahoo!

** Google Expands Desktop **

Originally, the Google Desktop program simply organized your
files, emails and web searches into one place.

When you looked from a certain file or topic on your system,
the program returned relevant results from files on your
hard drive, email correspondence, and past web search
history.

The new version of Google Desktop expands significantly over
the original version by including a host of new services
designed to create your own “personal information manager”
right on your computer’s desktop.

Probably the most obvious change is the “Sidebar,” which
makes a significant new addition to the tool.

The Sidebar allows you immediate access not only to
information on your hard drive, but to specialized online
information based on your preferences and viewing habits.

The Sidebar also incorporates an RSS feed reader, making it
extremely simple for even complete novices to subscribe to
and read news feeds from the web.

Many would think this one feature of a simple rss reader
represents a direct step to grab the general consumer before
Microsoft can launch their Longhorn browser (which will
contain an rss reader).

Other additions include a news ticker, real time stock
quotes, photo viewer, quick-find feature with the ability to
launch programs just by typing in a few letters, and a
scratch pad.

Google definitely upgraded this previously limited program
to create a very handy personal organizer for your
computer’s desktop. Log on to http://desktop.google.com to
download a free copy.

** Google Goes Mobile **

If you fall into the over-30 age range, you probably didn’t
know that “SMS” stands for “Short Message Service.”

Yet SMS comprises one of the fastest growing areas of all
communication on the planet.

Millions of people use SMS on their cell phones to
communicate as well as gather information.

Log on to http://www.google.com/sms/ to discover how Google
can now help you get information through your cell phone
fast and free.

Get everything from driving directions, local business
listings, and movie showtimes to local weather conditions,
dictionary definitions and even product pricing.

Imagine walking into a store, spotting an item you want to
buy, and before purchasing it know exactly how much you
could snag it for online.

Picture yourself in an unfamiliar town and getting driving
directions to the local Walmart. Google also operates a new
home page just for mobile users at
http://www.google.com/mobile/.

Watch for this area of online services to expand massively
in the near future.

Free Website and Blog Content Bonanza

Free Website and Blog Content Bonanza!

Did you know that literally millions of pages of content
exist out on the Internet that you can legally use (some
would even say “swipe”) to put content on your website?

It’s true!

In fact, “public domain” material can form the basis for
ebooks, articles, blog content and even autoresponder email
messages.

So if you need content for your website, this article may
hold the key to discovering an avalanche of available
material requiring you to write very little (if any) of it
yourself.

“Public Domain” refers to any intellectual work that does
not carry copyright protection.

Works like books, magazines, articles, music, and film fall
into the public domain in one of several ways: their
copyright expired; they were donated to the public domain;
they are not eligible for copyrighted status.

In the United States, that means any work published before
1923 falls into the public domain.

Any work published between 1923 and 1963 that did not have
its copyright renewed in the 28th year falls in the public
domain.

So the copyright owner of a work first copyrighted in 1950
would have had to renew that copyright by 1978 in order to
retain their rights.

Some legal experts estimate that as much as 80% of works
published in the period between 1923 and 1963 never renewed
their copyright.

Now, you may wonder, “What does this have to do with me?”
Well, in a nutshell, it means you can get access to an
avalanche of content without creating it yourself or paying
someone else to create it for you.

Check out these websites for additional information on how
and where to find public domain material.

http://www.PDRiches.com – Offers an entire course on how to
identify, use, and profit from works in the public domain.
The creator of the course specifically teaches how to find
and repackage public domain information for profit on the
Internet.

http://www.pdinfo.com – A website dedicated to public domain
music topics which offers a number of resources, a list of
3,500+ songs in the public domain, and a brief tutorial
specifically on using musical works in the public domain.

http://www.unc.edu/~unclng/public-d.htm – Offers a concise
summary chart of the dates involved with determining if a
work falls into the public domain.

http://www.CopyRight.gov – the U.S. Government site that
offers a complete guide to copyright and copyright issues.
Also includes a searchable database to determine if a work’s
copyright was renewed.

Using public domain materials does not, however, come
without a degree of risk.

If you choose to use a public domain work in your writing,
website, blog, autoresponder or other work, you must ensure
that the work does fall into the public domain.

As with any matter involving the law, consulting an attorney
if you are at all unsure about whether a work falls into the
public domain rates an excellent idea to avoid trouble.

But, if done correctly, the use of public domain materials
creates an excellent opportunity to share valuable
information with a worldwide audience using the new
communication mediums only the Internet can provide.

My Top 7 Favorite Ecommerce Tools

My Top 7 Favorite Ecommerce Tools

When you make your living on the Internet, you sometimes
forget that the resources you use every day (and take for
granted) might rate an incredible discovery to anyone who
doesn’t already know they exist.

Whether they help you make money, save time, save money, or
avoid frustration, these ecommerce tools and services rate
my highest recommendation for anyone who conducts any form
of ecommerce online.

ClickBank.com –

If you sell a downloadable product such as an ebook, report,
or software, you can’t beat ClickBank for processing credit
card payments. Not only do they take the payments and send
you a check twice a month, they also plug your product into
an existing network with tens-of-thousands of affiliates who
can sell it for you. Also, unlike a traditional merchant
credit card processing account, ClickBank assumes all the
fraud risk and prevents many of the “horror” stories you
hear in connection with online credit card processing.

MySiteSales.com –

Since ClickBank only allows the sale of downloadable
products, MySiteSales.com comes to the rescue for anyone
selling a physical product or service. Offering a suite of
integrated product catalogs, follow up autoresponders,
advertising tracking, a secure server, and even limited-time
coupon offers, this tool rates a “must have” for setting up
and integrating a professional ecommerce solution on
virtually any size website.

Aweber.com –

If you need an unlimited number of follow up autoresponders
and the ability to send an email “broadcast” to all your
contacts at one time, Aweber offers an excellent managed
solution. Specializing in helping small to medium-sized Web
businesses implement an effective email follow-up strategy
without complicated software, Aweber gets our highest marks
for service and dependability.

GoDaddy.com –

Cheap, reliable, easy-to-use domain name registrar that only
charges $8.95 per year for each domain name you register.
Godaddy rates cheaper and just as, if not more, reliable
than any other domain registrar. They also offer a “private
registration” option that allows you to keep your identity
as the domain owner a secret from unscrupulous people who
exploit domain name records to compile mailing lists, spam
databases or worse.

FrontierPowerHosting.com –

Any successful ecommerce endeavor begins with a solid
website hosting service. Nothing shuts you down faster than
an unreliable web host because, the second they go offline,
your business goes offline. I host one of my servers at
FrontierPowerHosting.com because of great customer service
and guaranteed up-time.

ClipArt.com –

Ever pulled your hair out searching for that perfect image,
photo, or piece of clipart for your website? Once you
exhaust the Microsoft collection on your computer, the next
stop (if you want to find something fast) is Clipart.com.
With thousands of images searchable by keyword, you can
always find the perfect image in less time and without the
worries of copyright infringement if you just pull something
off the Web.

Google.com/Adsense/ –

Website got traffic but no making much money? Open a free
account with Google AdSense and earn a commission any time
someone clicks on any of the targeted ads. An excellent way
to earn extra cash on virtually any website.
